I didn't care for the ending, or for the three OVAs in general. I didn't think they would take it there, but that is one of the interesting things about anime.

Fortunately, I've learned to not expect an anime to have a good ending. The majority that I've watched have endings that are forgettable, bad, confusing, very sad or depressing, or just plain stupid.

Consider Eureka Seven:

Or Clannad:

You have to judge carefully how much you should invest in an anime, knowing that it could end up disappointing you.

Regarding Eureka Seven, unless they changed the ending when it aired on CN, that isn't how I remember it ending.

Clannad: After Story tends to color people's memories, but that wasn't how it ended. Perhaps it fell under the "forgettable" category for you, and you only remember the part that came shortly before.

That aside, pulling off a good ending is one of the most difficult tasks in fiction.

A good ending is part of a good storytelling. Unfortunately, they are very elusive among anime.

An ending doesn't have to be happy to be good. Consider the movie Atonement - a fantastic, Oscar award winning movie with a very sad and depressing ending. I'll watch it again and again and I will enjoy it, but I won't watch Clannad again. It was rather abusive and uncaring towards its characters and audience.

Oreimo went down a truly perverted path of incest to the destruction of its characters, knocking it down a few notches in my estimation. It just won't stand highly in my list of anime I enjoyed.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The first season had me all hyped up and made so excited, all the characters were so cute and adorable and I even had respect for Kyousuke up until the last few episodes when he began te fell in love with Kirino. And what I hated the most is how the siblings treated Manami at the end, it was just horrible.

Immediately after watching the ending, I was downright furious. But after giving it some thought (and scowering forums for other people's opinions), I feel like the ending was misinterpreted by a lot of viewers. This may just be wishful thinking on my part, but here is what I feel may have been intended in the last moments of the OVAs:

These are very subjective thoughts, but as an Oreimo lover, I can't help but try to find salvation in the ending as I can't stand the idea of it all being blown to pieces. Also, as a Kuroneko supporter, I can't accept that her pain was all for nothing.

akimbojoe Hey buddy, did you not see the part where they said it would be available to all non premium members in a week? You think putting this stuff up and getting these deals put together is free?

You want a premium member trial code? I'll give you one if you PM me and apologize to the CR staff, I'm not talking down to you, I'm just trying to make you see reason and not make yourself look silly.

Well I was grossly disappointed in all 3 of the OVA episodes. That wasn't how I wanted things to go at all.

Looks like my comment was deleted because of talking about "illegal hosting" websites. Interesting thing is, they only host the torrents, and not the illegal content X'D.

Now, the answer to you.
Costs? That's funny. While people in other countries have it for free on Nico Nico Douga, we here have to pay. Don't they understand that fans want the things at the same time as they are released in Japan, and at the same cost? That's why I started seeing the first OVA right after it aired, but on the "illegal hosting website". For me, illegal is asking for money for something that is free in the other part of the world.

Now, regarding the actual content of the OVAs.
Personaly, I didn't like how it ended, but the author didn't like it either. He was censored by the publisher, and didn't get to do what he wanted, which was a True Kirino Route. And that is why he hinted that they are going back to normal to the public, but are going to be together secretly.

The ending was a total cop-out, if they really weren't going to stay together there was no reason to burn all those bridges with friends. It really should have ended with Kyouske and Kirino staying together.

Thanks for the heads up! I got my fix back when it came out. If you haven't already seen its definitely worth the time to check out. Still sad to see the series end but everything must end sooner or later.

I didn't particularly enjoy the OVAs, but for a different reason than most of everyone else here. I felt it was a little rushed- I mean, I know they gave a full 3 episodes to wrap up the series, which is much longer than the LN equivalent in chapters, but it still felt like the events passed by in the blink of an eye. At first, I thought it was just me, but when I examined the actual time each even happened in the episodes, I realized it was partly due to the OVAs themselves. I still liked watching the true ending of the story, though.

Now...

What is wrong with all of you here?! "'I hate incest'- so I'm going to completely kill off OreImo in my heart"?! You people are just-...
The world is filled with people who are increasingly beginning to accept even unisex relations, but you rate incest even lower than that- even though that is at least between different genders!! To all of you who hate Kyousuke for falling for his sister- the anime is actually called "My Little Sister Can't be This Cute"!!! Of course he would've ended up with his sister- it's that obvious!! Sure, it could have been interpreted differently, but only a person even denser than Kyousuke would think otherwise after the first 8 minutes!! And yet, you choose now- after all these signs and hints and the actual choice happening- to rant on?! And Kirino also fell in love with her brother- yet only Kyousuke gets the brunt of the hate?!
Have you even considered how the characters themselves would feel if they were real?! Yes, the Kousakas did fall in love with each other, but- as revealed during Manami's confrontation, they both understood exactly what society thought of their relation, and how "gross" it was. You say Kyousuke made the worst decision, but you're forgetting something extremely important! Kyousuke is not perfect. It was obvious in the anime, and the LN stated it out clearly- Kyousuke Kousaka was just a normal high school boy! Why are you expecting a gal/ero-ge protagonist out of him?! Wasn't it clear from the OVAs that they knew there was a difference between reality and fiction?
It's true that Kyousuke picked his own sister over quite a few other promising girls, but that does not mean he completely disregarded them. Remember- both he and each girl had their own events, growth, and moments together, and he felt it was a huge waste to not accept any of them. He felt like crying from each of his own rejections! Do you think it wasn't painful for him?! Sure, he made his resolve to confess to his sister, but that doesn't mean that rejecting each of the other girls he had formed a tight bond with was easy- he didn't just do it lightly.
If anything, this is one of the most realistic anime OVAs! Just the ending. A boy who has given up, meets different people who help him reach the heights he used to, falling in love, having it crushed, falling in love again, and keeping it real at the same time. Maybe if you read the 11th volume, you might have a better idea of his past.
I just can't take it when you say you hate OreImo just because it supports incest and the male character rejects your candidate for love. At least there is a (somewhat) decision at all!! It's because of you, society, that the ending turned out that way! The main point was to introduce a taboo relationship and the growth and trials that a couple goes through while fighting against the world. You don't like how he ended up "becoming regular siblings again"? It's because of people like you that the author finished in that manner!! All of you are either being sore losers, or are too single-minded in you own views that you can't enjoy this nice change-of-pace romance story without despising it with extreme bias!!
I-I.. I.... I just can't say any more. I'm having some difficulty expressing my feelings in this.

In Tsukasa Fushimi's mind, Kirino does end up with Kyosuke, much to my Kuroneko-loving dismay. Despite the fact that the LN and anime say otherwise, Fushimi wasn't allowed to promote incest on such a popular show but if he was alowed too, then Kirino would win. Still I don't really hate Kirino, I just think Kuroneko is much more fun to watch with her actions, dialogue, and deep implied lonliness, such a tragic character.

I didn't like the romance near the end because I didn't really feel anything from these two, the confession of appreciation in episode 11 of season 1 was far more heartfelt and emotional than this love confession. They still seemed to distant and it would have been nice to remind us why they like eachother in the last OVA

Guess I'll spoiler this, just in case. I almost made the mistake of clicking this thread to see when the last day it aired was and reading spoilers.
