When it come to anime I think the expectations and standards we hold of ourselves in reality become skewed.

The idea of a brother sister having a sexual relationship is repulsive because it's considered extremely unhealthy, and depending on the person, unethical.

But remember that in anime there are different standards of human nature/behavior that don't reflect reality (at least not in its entirety). Compared to other anime characters, the siblings in this show don't have any extreme problems despite feeling the way they do, which suggests to me that in this particular world incest doesn't equate to mental/emotional degradation.

It could easily be argued that the eroge obsession is a side effect of an unhealthy attraction to their actual sibling, but it could also be said that it's an ironic plot element.

Having not seen this show in it's entirety yet (yea, looking at the time I'm gonna have to watch the OVAs first ), I can only say that IF the eroge is an actual side effect, then I still am unsure if it's really detrimental to Kirino's health. Because to me there's a big difference between Kirino and Akagi--even though they have similar interests. Also, as far as her immaturity/selfishness goes...it's hard to argue the cause. It could just be an age thing.

tl:dr Incest in anime does not equate to incest in reality. Anime differs from reality to varying degrees which makes it difficult to gauge what's healthy and what's not.

Edit: Also, whether it's disgusting to you anyway is a matter of perspective and taste. I have three sisters and I'm not particularly bothered by the incest. And whether it makes for good story telling is a whole other matter....

^All very interesting points of consideration, especially because of their depth. Some of them I can empathize with because I did pick up on them...but my problem with Oreimo is that I felt it never really decided what to do with itself and I wasn't sure how to interpret it.

The narrative and (mostly) plot bring up many questions but didn't give me a strong enough impression, not to mention I wasn't taking it seriously to begin with. So normally a second viewing would benefit me, if I really think it's worthwhile, but that's already been decided since the OVAs are going down.

Not to mention the fact that I haven't seen episodes 8-12 of season 2...so my current state is mostly bewildered.

I guess I can't say Oreimo doesn't have some substance, but overall the presentation I CAN comment on felt a bit weak and awkward (but then again maybe that's the point?). My previous post about incest was intentional subjective since, as I've said, I'm still evaluating the story itself. But even now I'm seriously reevaluating my stance on incest in Oreimo.

Edit: The more I think about it, the more it seems that my major fault here is that I didn't give Oreimo a chance. I felt that there was something more, but didn't take it seriously, and instead mistook it for a more simple slice of life story. But lesson learned. I do try to remain sensitive to the subliminal but it does often escape me.

Too many people are too focused on the incest aspect of the anime, and completely missed the rest of this anime.

Clearly, too many people didn't bother thinking about a single word that Kyosuke said in the last 10 minutes of the last episode.

They told everyone what dates it would be available back when they announced they had acquired the rights to stream the OVAs (in mid-June). How could they tell you any sooner than that without inventing a time machine?

I agree with you all the way. The only thing I liked was that the writers gave the siblings enough sence to know that their relationship would never have worked. Still I wish he hadn't burned every girl he know who liked him even though he knew the relationship with Kirino would amount to nothing. They could have ended it so much better and they screwed it up. It makes me sad how often this happens now.
