I had to rate this a bit low even though it bought me back some nostalgia. The amount of materials skipped with the cramming kinda hit the nail there but I really liked the classic OST and a few of the battle moves.

Pokemon Black & White 2 anime >>>>>>>>>>> This.

...and that was only 5 minutes long.

It certainly was nostalgic, and I have to give them credit for really sticking to the "source material" (the game) in almost every single possible way, even the things that don't really make sense in the animated medium like a lot of the items (Pokeflutes, TMs etc etc).

The problem is that it's based off a pretty old game with a pretty elementary school level of complication to its story and everything that happens in it. Apparently police exist, yet they never do anything about Team Rocket? Red doesn't seem to understand type match-ups down to his very last KO in becoming the Pokemon League champion. He tries to capture someones Nidoran in the beginning, and the kid has to tell him he can't do that. I mean, I know we all tried that as kids in the game, but really? How much of a dumb ass can you really be? Giovanni disbanding Team Rocket after one single "exhilarating" battle...I mean...a lot of that stuff could have sufficed to have been given a slight make-over in its execution as an animation so that it made more sense in this generation.

The sense of wonder was definitely more than what we currently have with Satoshi's story in the current long running anime, but all in all Pokemon Origins had to cram a bit too much in there for it to be an effective piece of animation.

The ret-con with the megavolution Lizardon was interesting, and honestly I feel like they should have left Mewtwo out of it if they weren't going to expand on it in the way Pokemon the First Movie did, it sort of devalued the overall mystique of his existence. This, again, is due to the cramming.

Overall this animation suffers from bloat unfortunately :/

I think that if they wanted to make an animation based on the old games, they would have been much better served to adapt the Pokemon Adventures manga. That was some really good stuff, with deeper characters than anything a game with a mute playable character could muster.
