There are a few anime that have really touched me, and i cant choose just three, so in no particular order.

Hiiro no Kakera - The Tamayori Princess Saga -confusing at first, but the ending is what got me.
Angel beasts
a runien kenshin
the backstory of luffy's crew mates in one piece.
DN Angel
akatsuki no yona

Well most animes are sad, but in the romantic emotional heart moving way I would place Clannad, Angle Beats, Kokoro Connect and White Album 2 easily at the top of my list. I would not regard any of them as especially romantic however I am not really into that kind of thing so I should not really comment on it.

EF: A Tale of Melodies should certainly be on the list. I have not seen the anime but I have read the visual novel and from that I can say it belongs here.

School Days in not a sad romance!

Your Lie in April - Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Watching the end of this is public was a bad choice.

Angle Beats- first anime to make me cry

Nozoki Ana- Not an Anime but parts of this manga got very sad. It has ecchi elements especial at the beginning but grows into so much more.

Your Lie in April - by a country mile. Everything else of this type that I've seen is a distant second.

Plastic Memories.

I have posted that answer many times over. The show still haunts me and can make me cry just listening to the OST or seeing gifs.

I'd say Plastic Memories, too, but considering how when I watched episode one I instantly realised I would need to brace myself, I think I'd have to say White Album 2, instead, since I wasn't expecting so many manly tears.

I can't understand why Ef - A Tale of Memories makes up on the list for some people, it was filled with happy endings, however...

1. Ef - A Tale of Melodies ; --- ;

2. Clannad (Though it was sad and everything, ultimately good also came from it. I still find the ending of Melodies more tearful than Clannad. ; --;)

3. Chobits (I had difficulties on finding the third. There are aspects that make this sad. ;-;)
