Sword Art Online and Akame Ga Kill are currently ''ahead of Naruto''
Still I'm fine with whatever. I don't really care what is supposedly ''number 1'' I love Naruto and think it deserves it for the long and enjoyable run though. SAO and Akame are very awesome/enjoyable as well.

Wow. Is this the first time Akame ga Kill! has made it ahead of Naruto? I feel like I've never seen it past fifth place...

Many shows have been ahead of Naruto, just for a really short time.
One time, I saw Sword Art Online ahead and then Naruto was back into number 1.
Also Hunter x Hunter and Fairy Tail.

In the end, Naruto goes back to begin number one no matter what. Why is that?

The only three shows I have personally been around to see take the top spot from Naruto are No Game No Life, Akame Ga Kill and Sword Art Online. I gasp each time too lol. I mean I'm not a Naruto fan but I respect its popularity so seeing something pass it seems pretty crazy. I am happy Akame Ga Kill finally got up there though. Its my new favorite.

I have no idea, actually; it's kinda weird. I heard it has something to do with how many clicks it gets or something like that... I guess it must have people clicking on it every day or something...?

For any other show that manages to make it to number one for even a short period of time, it's usually around the time/day it airs. But I'm curious to see if One Piece will end up passing it for good once all the episodes are available (unless they're all there right now--I don't watch the show, so I wouldn't know ). I've heard in various places that, in terms of global popularity, One Piece beats Naruto.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that...

I just checked Hulu to make sure of this, but it turns out practically all of the One Piece episodes are there. (Only 24 are missing.) I already knew that Naruto Shippuden was #1 for anime there as well, but I figured it was because One Piece was missing a bunch of episodes (but 24 doesn't seem like much).

Maybe it's the manga that's most popular, rather then the anime...?

I'm sure Naruto was on top and keeps contending because of it's popularity originally generated by cartoon network years ago, as well as it's continued support on the channel. I know AoT was probably getting so much attention thanks to CN as well, it was a hit on AS (though let me be clear, the attention is *definitely* well deserved, but CN's influence on the average American anime watcher is undeniable). There are so many other shows to watch that the anime fanbase is probably pretty divided outside the mainstream. Most Americans roughly my age were introduced to anime through DBZ, pokemon, Inuyasha, One Peice, Bleach and Naruto thanks to cartoon network/toonami. I'm simply speaking from experience as an American anime-only fan (no manga) and how I, and my friends, got into anime in the first place. Naruto and the other shows I listed were like the anime gate-way drugs. Curiosity about Shippoden after seeing a couple episodes on AS on cartoon network is what brought me to CR, though I've been introduced to much more since joining. I know right now One Piece is actually on top, but basically for the same reason that Naruto is usually on top I'm sure.

P.S. Naruto Shippoden filler episodes 290-295 are essentially a movie called "Power" with movie quality animation divided into 6 episodes, and it's the shit. Go watch it!

P.S.S. long live Toonami!
