Why didn't Guilty Crown get the same success as Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan?

Guilty Crown was also dropped by Studio I.G. rather quickly, and it did server a purpose.

You know what they say, the best way to get Famous and Rich and Powerful in the business isn't "make something awesome" but "make consistently ok" titles.

Think about how awesome and amazing Gainax's anime is, now consider the length of time between these wins.

Now look at how Studio I.G. has had the Anime Markets balls in a vice grip since Guilty Crown came out in 2011.

Guilty Crown, Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan. Throw in Eden of the east in 2009 if you want. They're making Anime out the face recently, throwing tons of new titles out there.

Compared to um...Studio Shaft, who's playing "Lets milk Monogatari until it's dead" and Sunrise who's "still making Gundam Clones"
The rest are small fish. I guess you could say Manglobe or Brainbase are trying but, outside of one or two anime, do you really know who they are?

I.G.'s steadily increasing the quality of it's anime, it's introducing new series and licenses instead of remakes and continuations.

Think of Guilty Crown, Sword Art Online, and Attack on Titan as the Anime versions of Call of Duty.

BAMN, I blew my own mind writing this.

Guilty Crown went from mecha anime to survival anime to whatever so fast in between seasons that you´ll wonder if it actually was a mecha anime at all.

Sword art online was basically a harem in disguise because our typical, perfect, bland, boring shounen MC who never loses against any horrible antagonist scored a supposed badass girl swordman who´s actually a pathetic damsel in distress, a loli, a forgetable smith and some other weak girl. Hell, he´s so goddamned perfect he even makes his own sister fall in love with him. Oh you wanted to see some exciting swordduels? Honey you should know that our perfect MC will never lose one.

I guess GC was forgetable because it was trying to explain more than the story actually presented but SAO was so shallow after the first episode and so terribly stupid that it somewhat amused me. I respect GC for actually trying to do something original with the kings power or whatever but if only if guilty crown had explained less unrelated stuff to the plot and presented the actual source material, it wouldn´t be so forgetable.

*cough* But he did.

You know the first 3 or say 4 episodes of Sword Art Online?

They should have expanded it into 12 or 15 episodes.

THAT would have been awesome and it would save room to introduce Suguha or whatever his sisters name was in Season 2's opening. THAT would have given them enough time to create and build up the Second game world just fine without rushing near the ending. Season 2s train wreck was epic because of how it kept going despite crashing for another 50 miles before exploding.

I had lots of fun with the second half, despite my Incest disgust, Suguha was a very likable character. While Asuna didn't get the character development she should and could have, as the Time-skips negated her build up time.

Sure the bonding was nice, but where was the emotional build up beforehand? We got filler episodes to bond them, that's a horrible way to build up your characters!

HELL, the Second episode alone is the most glaring defender. It's essentialy the entire Band of the Hawk Arc from Berserk in 10 minutes. With a remaining 10 minutes for the following 100 Chapters where Guts goes solo-man hunter on the world for a few years. All that just randomly ended at the end of the episode! IT WAS TOO QUICK!

Such potential all used up so early, and they know! Hell, they can still remake those portions into full length movies or OVA's if they wanted to. The SAO universe isn't taped out. Tons of potential to milk from it.

SAO sucks and is horrible, Guilty Crown was 1000x better in my opinion.
Better then Attack on Titan? I dunno they are both amazing tho. Attack on Titan got really popular super fast because of also the already massive amount of manga fans and both Crunchyroll and Funimation quickly licensing it. SAO got popular because of retarded forever alone virgin weeabos who promoted it so much cause they all dream of being like Kirito and being a game master with a super hot gf, so pathetic.

Feel bad for Guilty Crown tho it was amazing I dunno why...

nothing can beat SAO. Its the perfect anime

I didn't realize Perfect anime had no plot or 3 dimensional characters. I still remember when that tentacle monster attacked Asuna, wasn't that a perfect moment that had so much meaning and relevance? Screw Lelouche's speeches or Gurren Lagann's message of hope and progress. perfect anime has pointless tentacle rape, Lolis, little sister cliches, and millions of pointless plot points and characters.

SAO is the perfect anime, the storyline, art, music, characters, everything is good

Story for season 1 = Survive

Story for Season 2 = Save Girl

NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE!...Except a million times.

Art does not make a good anime/show/story, otherwise, James Cameron's Avatar would be the greatest movie on Earth

Music = Music was mediocre

Characters = 1 dimensional, no character development, made out to be perfect people with stupid flaws

you dont know anything. first off there isnt a second season yet, the second part is of season 1. secondly music was great, and there was character development. thirdly, Avatar is the greatest movie ever

I've never seen GC but

As for the popularity of SAO and Titans, both are overrated as hell...though I did like the first half of SAO until the TPTB decided 'fuck it' and go all shonen.

I tried watching two episodes of Titans and all I keep thinking was, 'They're Giant Zombies'

Guilty Crown, ugh. I have not seen that show since it was first airing so I don't remember everything in detail (stopped after the episode where the main character got his arm cut off or whatever). From the first 1-2 episodes you can see that there were way too many parallels plot-wise to Code Geass for some things not to have been taken from it. A story revolving around a high school student in japan where a evil foreign government has taken over (something like that, sorry again, I have not seen this show in a while), he finds a mysterious girl who gives him some unique power that he then uses against said government. The boy then jobs a resistance/terrorist group. Oh, and did I mention there are mechs? And holy crap, while typing I just noticed that Code Geass is CG and Guilty Crown is GC /facepalm

The difference between Code Geass and Guilty Crown is that for most people, the main character in GC is not likable and the rest of the characters were 1 dimensional. Though, Code Geass could have developed some of the important characters (like Cornelia, Nannaly, Schnitzel) a little more.

Are you trolling or something? because these are some really wrong and flawed arguments. 1.) There is a second season called Alfheim Online fyi 2.) All the characters are one dimensional for example:
Kirito is too perfect of a MC so much so that he's boring and predictable
Asuna is there purely for there to be a love interest. She was supposed to be this strong badass but she becomes a damsel in distress who can't anything by her self.
Kirito's sister... this character has no reason to exist other than to have incest in this terrible mess of a story

Hey do you remember any side-character's that were in the second MMO? yeah me neither. That's proving my point
Please tell me how Kirito won from that admin guy that held everybody inside SAO...yes through one deus ex machina that how he won.
You could see it from a mile that Asuna was gonna get raped by that horny crazy fairy guy from the beginning of the second season that's why Asuna can't do anything by her self it's why she got tentacle-raped before that even.

Your free to like this anime ofcourse but you can't deny that it has some serious flaws.

P.S. Avatar is boring but nice to look at. It kind of reminds me of else...

are you stupid? the first season is split into two arcs, first arc is SAO, second arc is ALO. and the characters are suppose to be like so you like them fast. and there are no flaws in SAO. I watched 100s of animes, so i know whats good and whats bad. P.S. Avatar is good (your like Suguo)
