During a limited engagement Sunday concert at Otakon this year (2013), Yoko Kanno, one of the best known composers/musicians in the anime industry performed her newest project for the first time. I was lucky enough to be one of roughly 4,000 people able to watch her performance live.

"Piano Me" is a beautiful concert performance by Yoko playing the piano alone on stage, including several of her more popular pieces. During all of this, a projector projects a show onto the grand piano she is playing (covered completely in white felt). The animation shown on the piano follows the shape of the piano itself and fits the music flawlessly, and the music itself was, of course, wonderful.

The concert itself was beautiful, with Yokko and the crowd singing along to some of her bigger hits. The music, animation, plus her own energy made it one of the most unique and memorable performances I've ever experienced.

That being said, would anyone else be interested in attending another of these performances? Also, what are your guys' thoughts on the format? If you are feeling up to it, you can actually purchase the piano sheet music for the entire performance.

I've loved the few songs I've heard by Yoko Kanno, and I'm a huge fan of piano music. I'd love to see something like that.

Since seeing a performance is unlikely I'd take a solo piano album from her instead.
