I like some tsunderes, but as someone else said, it's over used. It can get old really really quick, especially if the tsundere show's her sweet side as often as a politician tells the truth. lol *looks pointedly at Oreimo*

Bad side effect of usual harem anime series. All the characters get troped out to hell for the sake of being tropes. Tsundere's are not the only problem in these series. ANY archetype used will mostly result in something pretty damn dreadful character wise, because they usually lack any personality outside of whatever trope they are portraying. There are of course exceptions to the rules for different reasons, as there are a couple series in the harem genre that DON'T make me want to tear my hair out.... :/

The tough, gruff cowboy finally shows that he has a gentle, compassionate side when he decides to be heroic. It's a good character archetype that works pretty well in a lot of narratives.

But yeah, I think the OP's complaint is about the times when the tsundere is made so antagonistic that it comes across like a villainous "kick the puppy" personality. That kind of character is better off as an actual villain.

I hate them too but I make exceptions when it's done right. Tsundere done right for me is when the tsundere part is depicted as a character's secondary trait and not her defining point. Usually, I can tell when a tsundere is inserted into the series for the sake of having a tsundere in it.. I kinda like it more when it's not "in-your-face." A tsundere that I liked would be Makise Kurisu from Stein's;Gate.

I like Tsundere more when the girl has an actual personality and she's not just a trope as Orga777 pointed out. It's funnier and cuter when she's acting like a normal girl and then she says something tsundere. Kinda like Ayumi and Chihiro in TWGOK. Both of them have personalities, but they act tsundere when they show Keima any sort of affection or are nice to him as a defense mechanism.

They add to the story occasionally, so I see no need for the hate.

Some people like it when girls play hard to get. In fact, most people who like tsunderes like them because they feel that they've accomplished something by earning their trust as opposed to being with someone who's always been nice.
