Elder Scrolls Online: Do you plan to play?
Posted 8/21/13 , edited 8/21/13
Elder Scrolls Online has been in closed beta testing for a few months, and a lot has been published about its developing content and gameplay, already.

Do you plan to play, and what do you find interesting or trepidating about what you've read, seen and heard about it thus far? Have you played any of the preceding Elder Scrolls games before, and does your previous experience affect your expectations for this game? Have you played other MMO's and are looking for this game to be familiar in play-style or are you hoping for changes/shifts in the MMO paradigm?

Please note: If you are participating in closed beta testing, there is an NDA in effect, so don't discuss any closed beta gameplay or unpublished content.

EDIT: I swear I did a search for "Elder Scrolls Online" several times under "PC Gaming" and nothing popped up. My questions are in earnest, so if there's a way to merge this with the other Elder Scrolls Online thread, I'd appreciate it.

If it lives up to the Elder Srolls title and not some rushed Wow clone with no sense of Elder Scolls in it. Until then I'll plant my roots in FFXIV ARR.

I can imagine I will end up giving in to my need for playing every MMO and my friends pestering me to get it. The things i find interesting is just the fact The Elder Scrolls will be online. I am not picky :p

Currently playing Starwars The Old Republic, I highly imagine it will be nothing like it. I am not sure if i will completely leave it as I am also having plenty of fun on that.

I love The Elder Scrolls, but probably wont be playing ESO. I'm not sure if it will be different enough from the other MMOs I've played and I'll just get bored (it might turn out different, but right now I'm just not too excited) It would have to really wow me to get me paying $14.99/month.

I was thinking the same thing. I saw that Gamestar article about the sub cost, and immediately got Sticker-Shocked. I do believe it will play almost exactly like Skyrim, except with a lot of other players running about around you. The skins on the weapons and armor better look pretty damn sexy and I better get a near-immediate response to any issue reports I submit, is all I have to say about that pricetag.

Yeah I understand what you are saying, In this day and age its really hard to release a pay to play MMO and not expect it to completely flop, look at what happened to Swtor for example, then again there were a lot more reasons than it just being p2p at first. All we can do is hope eh?

I haven't been following the game much, but when I first heard about it, I thought it would pretty much be a reskin of SWTOR. Like just another tab targeting, cooldown spamming kinda game. But I just watched some uncut gameplay from Quakecon and I think you're right. It looks more like TES than an MMO (the combat atleast, I only watched a few min) I dunno if I'm sold yet, tho.

Yea, I was a little surprised to see them go p2p. Seems everyone who tries that lately ends up going/adding a f2p/micro transaction model. So I guess I was kinda hoping to see that for ESO. And, yea I played SWTOR for...a yearish? maybe. I enjoyed it very much while it lasted.

I found it interesting that there will be no aggro, and that cooldowns for things like healing spells will be quite short. I'm not sure how well the PvP will go, since that will run entirely unlike most MMO's even though there will be large-scale PvP battles (I am recalling the Abyss in Aion).

I am skeptical that they will make it more than 12 months before buckling under and switching to no sub with micro-transactions, but we'll see. GW2 has been doing very well with that model, thus far, and they aren't typical of most MMO's either.

If it's FTP maybe. I don't fancy paying for MMOs anymore. I don't have the time to spend 4-12 hours a day playing such like so many seem to.

As soon as they said its pay to play, I lost interest. So not worth the money. If its one time buy, for sure I`d play, otherwise, no thanks.

I was so excited for this game especially seeing it at pax and whatnot, however once i found out they wanted you to first pay $60 for the game and then a monthly fee of $15 that completely turned me off. Ill wait and see if they end up lowering the price at some point otherwise I'm out.

Probably not, if they want $60 and $15 per month. I don't see any benefit to having it online for that price, well none I am interested in.

^This. It looks great for a game to buy and play casually. But not for $15 a month, where i am forced to play or else I am not getting my money's worth. But i did like the ES series overall
