SPOILER: This is a suggestion post

So about a month ago I opened a Spoiler Comment AFTER I watched the episode the comment was on and to my surprise it was MAJOR spoiler! The comment ruined that series for me and I decided to not watch anymore of that series (it was a season finale that I read the comment on, so the next season isn't out yet) just because the spoiler talked about someone dying in an upcoming season, which I was a fan of that character.

So my suggestion, which I think a lot of people would agree, is to have an extra spoiler option. We'll call it Major Spoiler. Most spoiler comment are usually about the episode the comment is posted on, but in rare occasions, it's about someone talking about the manga of that series and sometimes can ruin the show for others. I know a lot of people heard the manga's, but I believe the majority only watch the Anime. So the point of this "Major Spoiler" option would be for the manga readers so they don't potentially ruin that series for someone else.

Thank you for reading this Suggestion/Rant thread (yes rant, still a little frustrated) Feel free to give me hate, suggestions, and/or praise!

I'm moving this to site suggestion section.

part of the difficulty is that some users want to share what they know beforehand, and its damanging.

The other part is that they're an ignorant fool that doesn't use the spoiler option from the word go.

Sorry about that, looked but didn't see a suggestion forums. Thanks for the move!
EDIT: Now that you've moved me I now know where the suggestions forum is, thanks again!

BTW are you talking about the video page or the Forums?I think forums are different than the EP page!

I dont see a problem with that but user should be aware to begin with! I try to spoil for non-subscribers especially with recent EPS.However I dont see a problem with people talking about manga and for the most part people tend to take care.I think its being used quite well!

I'm talking about the video page.

But the problem is that most of the spoiler comments are spoilers about THAT episode, and that's why I read them (after I've watched the episode of course), but there are some about the manga. Now people talking about the manga is fine and dandy, but some are show ruiners. I've also noticed that most comments talking about the manga are usually downvoted to the point that it doesn't show up for me.

If we had an option for major spoilers, then people commenting about the manga can do so without spoiling the show for others. Also the people that don't read the manga will understand if it's a major spoiler then it will most likely be talking about the manga.

I hate to dig up the old posts, but I didn't want to make a duplicate thread as this is an issue that frequently comes up and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

The main issue with the spoilers tag is there's no clear cut definition of what "spoilers" means in the comment section.
To be 100% honest with you I disagree with you on saying the spoilers tag is for that episode. These comments are for the video you just watched, you should always assume the comments are going to contain spoilers. Unfortunately, many people, like yourself, think that spoilers tags should be for that episodes content which shouldn't be the case. What else are people going to comment about after just watching an episode???

Spoiler tags should be used for anything that pertains to events AFTER the video you just watched. One should never read the comments before watching the video for this exact reason (and then complain about spoilers for that episode).

My suggestion is that this should be made 100% clear on the site

If we can get everyone on the same page with this there wouldn't be as big of an issue with spoilers.

I know I'm necroing a thread, and I know this is partially my fault, but the Crunchyroll needs to improve their spoiler features.

There's no distinction between the kinds of spoilers, and the person writing it can't even add text in order to describe the kind of spoiler it is. Also, i feel that MAJOR spoilers have no place in any sort of video page unless it has to do with the video on that page. There are other places to discuss the very end of an anime. You can talk about spoilers all you want in a forum. You don't need to write a full description of the ending in the first few episodes in the comments. It's even worse when it's a reply of a comment string that has almost nothing to do with what the commenter spoiled. A large majority of spoilers on video pages are minor spoilers, only HINTING at events in the episode itself or in the next few. These kinds of of comments are acceptable.

A spoiler tag does not mean you can put anything you want in your comment. Telling viewers never look at a single comment with a spoiler tag if they don't want to see major spoilers not an excuse. That's like telling someone to never talk to strangers if they don't want to get mugged, because you never know what kind of things a stranger might do when you approach them. We know there's a risk, but that does not justify the action, especially when the expected result is obviously different. If there was a way to differentiate major and minor spoilers, posting major spoilers in video pages might be acceptable. Until then, there is no reason to talk about major spoilers on a video page, especially when there are forums.
