I was watching a movie with friends and video of U.S. president Ronald Reagan played and I blurted out Richard Nixon when I meant Ronald Reagan.

When a friend said that's Reagan...

I felt like such a dumb ass!

Has something like this ever happened to one of you?

I keep saying "the letter 1" when I mean to say "the number 1."

Doesn't happen with any other number. Just 1. Very odd.

'Have you never said the wrong thing, when you meant something else?

Was that intentional irony, or am I just too sleepy to realize that the sentance makes sense?

Was talking about Big Brother with a few friends and had said something along the lines of the following...

Me: Ben is soooo hot... I think Xavier is a bit of a nerd, why do you like him?

Later realised that I had gotten the names the wrong way around... Yup, embarrassing.

Yeah. Sometimes it's called a "Freudian slip." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freudian_slip It happens to the best of us -- or worst of us if you prefer!

Many times. I think this phenomenon illustrate how compartmentalized the brain really is. Many separate processes going on which may not coordinate properly.

We intuitively feel like it's one flowing process when it really isn't.
