So what?
Whys it bad to obsess with Japan? People obsess with London, France, Paris. I have a friend who speaks random french because she is self teaching herself and loves France. I think the people who love anime and J drams but don't know squat about Japan are more annoying then what ur talking about. Pathetic... learning "japanese" from anime... just cause they say it a certain way in the anime doesn't mean thats how its said on every occasion. Their culture is fasinating, especially how much they changed and progressed after World War 2. I have a friend whos music obsession lead him to study their culture, and is now majoring in Japanese at college. People obsess over lots of stuff, so whats your problem?

I'm not obsessed, the culture is just interesting to me. It IS annoying when people will be like "arigato!!!!" and only know two words.
I hate it when people get mad at someone because they insult pretty much any country, they should understand that that person has their own opinion and they have their's, if you want to defend it then do so, but don't get into a fight or whatever.

Why? Those people only know that Japan exist in Asia other than China. And their parents are feeding them that China is only a producer of their "stuff".

Petty though since most of wapanese doesnt even know where Asia is. I have met one, and asked her, "Where is Asia?", she answered, "Isnt that somewhere in Europe?". Shocking, yet true.

Next scenario, many wapanese try and say "gibberish" and call it "Japanese", I sincerely urge them to stop that, since I know what is and what is not, if I dont know anything, Ill try and learn it before speaking gibberish.

lol. agreed.

There is no such thing as a healthy obsession.

I'm only interested in anime, and that's probably about it. I really don't care about the culture, and I hate people that think everything is from Japan. I'm very annoyed with those kinds of people. On the forums I said some weird facts about Japan, and all of a sudden, this guy says that I'm spreading lies, and continuously swore at me. The thing was, his reasoning was off-topic, and it almost felt like he's saying it's a perfect country. They should really realize that Japan isn't a perfect country. It has it's own flaws, like any other countries.

Haha, I just realized that we both wrote in the same thread. The thread is

Japan questions and answers. I wrote in the first 3 pages I believe.

Because of that guy, I had to erase what I wrote.

Yeah, no offense, but there are a lot of Americans that are Weeaboos. And I agree, there is no such thing as a healthy obsession. Lots of weeaboos think that Asian means "Japanese," and it's annoying when they stick some random Japanese word in romaji in their sentences. And... they all think that Japanese people only eat sushi and rice and eat obento all the time (it's like how they think that Chinese people only eat fried rice, and other Chinese takeout). =\ I seriously don't see how Japan is so great.

It's alright to be interested in the Japanese culture, but people shouldn't go around claiming that they are Japanese/know everything about Japan.

Would I be considered a weeaboo if I were:

- Studying the language using any resource I can get my eyes/hands on
- Joining their social networking website (NOT myspace, but rather mixi.jp)
- Making a pen pal on SAID social networking site
- Watching anime with a Japanese dictionary in hand
- Studying the culture instead of getting views off anime/J-Pop
- Frequenting a Japanese [wonky] culture blog (Tofugu)
