August 25th, 2003. The day that changed my life forever.

It was on this day, that I decided to join forums/message boards. Back in the day when I was still fairly new to the internet (three years after installing it), I'd look up something and it would link me to some sites that I was not familiar with. What caught my attention about it, is the site being a gathering of members! It wasn't a site you just read, it was a group of people discussing and sharing their individual opinions like a normal conversation! And to top it all off, it was topics of my interests! I was like "finally some people to talk about my interests without being being laughed at!"

So that day, I joined a community I'm not used to. And of course, I had some rough start. But as time went on and joined more communities, I learned new stuff to make me a better member. For example, I learned to not plagiarize a topic from another place without referencing the original author because that's a dishonest thing to do and it's not fair to take credit of something I've never done. I also learned to be more mature and coherent when I type. I try my best to use the appropriate grammar and punctuation marks to make myself clear without turning my posts to a riddle and therefore everybody gets what I'm saying.

But the most important thing I learned is to respect my fellow members and not act like a troll making fun of them or just being jerk to them. If someone said something wrong, I correct him using text or visual evidence and say "excuse me, but what you said is wrong and here's the evidence". And if I was wrong and proven so, I accept my mistake and move on. I don't get arrogant and be like "I AM right because I said so."

In the past 10 years, I went from place to place. Places about anime, movies, art, games, etc. Some places I still hang with, others were for a certain interest that I lost and wait till I get interested about them again, some I left because I could not handle the immature levels of the members, and others were lost forever. I shared my old interests, and got new ones as time went on.My fandom expanded vastly compared to 10 years ago. And I owe it all to all the forums I've been to.

If wasn't in any forum for all this time, I'd have more free time for myself, but I wouldn't have someone to talk with or help me with my interests. So for this occasion, I like to give thanks to the following:

شبكة المنتدى The place where it started it all.
Kanzenshuu The second most influential forum I've been to in which changed my style for the better.
MangaHelpers Another forum that I spend most of my time with about manga and anime
شونين العرب The second most active I spend my time with. The members are a bit immature at times, but we all know it's for fun
Robot Japan My first toy-based forum in which I started sharing my interest about toys.
TFW 2005 My current place for toy discussion and Transformers.

And of course, you guys. This place is the one that made me the anime fan that I am today. It is the place that made waste my time on new anime each season and improved my anime knowledge more than any other place. So I'd like to thank you all for being part of these past years and got me to where I am now.

10 years... wow... I started all of this as a 15 years old... Now I'm 25, and boy sure time went by in a blink of an eye!

Happy digital birthday!

But, I'm closing this thread because as currently written it's personal--all about you, you, you. If you'd like to start a thread where you invite others to share their forum community history and experiences and also say a little about your own to get things started, that would be fine--but first please browse through General Discussion to verify that there isn't already a thread that does that.
