I'm on the fence. It's not terrible, but the first episode didn't *catch* me the way a good anime should. But I do like anime girls, soooooo..... I can usually survive any series given enough moe.

Well let me ask you guys. Do you want to accelerate our viewing and go from Sunday to Sunday and Wednesday? I don't think we'll have any stragglers, even if we do 2 a week instead of 1. Thoughts?

Sorry for being a bit late with the episode 1 discussion. Was mostly busy with Saints Row 4 and Tales of Xillia, and the change of doing this on Wednesday caught me off guard.

Episode 1
(At the time of writing this, I have not yet viewed episode 2)

Seems like a pretty average high school girl anime. Main character is a total clutz and loner, quickly makes friends, student council is filled with nothing but asshats, and everything is filled with wonderful, wonderful moe. Oh, and one minor plot point I may have neglected to mention. TANKS! LOTS AND LOTS OF TANKS! It appears in this world, the activity of tank battles (known as Tankery), if a widely practiced profession, especially for young girls (apparently Magic and Ninja are also common practices. What kind of world is this exactly?!) Also, it appears that the profession of Tankery is exclusive to girls and is viewed as a training to be more professional, courteous, strong, and 'womanly'. Oh yeah, GIANT AIRCRAFT CARRIER CITY! (not really an aircraft carrier, but you get the idea) :P

Overall, I rather enjoyed this episode, but like hughjazz44, it just doesn't grab me like other series do. I'm interested in learning more about this past trauma that the main character has gone through, and also why Tankery is such a common practice. I'm also curious about the amounts of German in this show (und = and ; Panzer = Tank, and also the German-style military attire on that one girl). I was also surprised that I apparently share the same birthday as Saori-san :P

Episode 2

Hurray, we have an opening theme now. Seemed alright, but nothing special. Also, seriously, where are all the guys in this series (not that I'm complaining )? So it seems that the main character is slowly coming to terms with getting back into Tankery, has proven to be a real asset to her group, and is also making more friends. We also get some wonderful fanservice scenes in this episode. It seems all is well, until the new training instructor arrives and tells everyone that they're going to do a mock battle. I think it seems a bit unfair how the groups are uneven, but I suppose we'll see later if any issues arise from that. And so the heated tank(ery) battle begins with a bang, literally, as the first shot is fired at the protagonist's tank. In a panic, they decide to retreat, and they notice a person lying on the side of the road. The order is given to alter course, and the episode concludes there with a suspenseful ending.

Personally, I enjoyed this episode (you'll be hearing me say this a lot, as I rarely hate anime). It shows a bit of how tanks and tank crew operate, which I found fascinating. Also, it displays a very realistic interpretation of how the internet functions (ie. "Google it!" and "Take your clothes off!"). I'm looking forward to the next episode.

And now, back to playing Tales of Xillia

GIRLS und PANZER 2

Cute girls, doing cute things, and playing with deadly killing machines.

So far, the story really isn't going anywhere, but it's only two episodes in, so that's to be expected. At least we get to know the characters a little better. The instructor's entrance was pretty epic. So here we are, the first mock battle begins! Looking forward to how it turns out in episode 3.

So far, the series is fun. Nothing really good about it yet, but definitely worth watching. Hard to really write much more about the show at this point, but hopefully there will be more to discuss in later episodes.

Partial gah! I've been to busy to post my episode reations, thinking "oh I got time till episode 2, I can finish the cosplay build and the con just in time"

Anyhow, that first episode is So much moe my face is hurting. Not that thats a bad thing. That one-eye-glass girl and the Studen Loli President were unexpected and lol worthy.

Introducing the cast via birthday however.....a bit of audience pandering eh?

Tankery is for women around the world, I now understand tankery in a new way. Unfortuantely, I'm not a tank-fetishish.

But I can't wait to see some more proper tankery happening later, that's where the fun in this series probably is. Takes what moe lacks (all the happening stuff things) and gives it action (Tankery bitches!)
