Maybe CR will do a survey again to see what systems most of the community owns. I'd like that idea a lot too.

Please point out to me where I ever said the One was better than the PS4.

It is interesting that Sony apparently originally intended to bundle the PS 4 Eye with the PS 4, but yanked it at the last minute so they could beat the One on price. A legacy of this is the otherwise useless color light panel on the back of the PS4 controllers, which without the Eye only serves as an additional battery drain. (If they had intended to make the Eye optional from the start, it would have been logical to build in an off switch for the panel).

Sorry. "You" was the wrong word, I meant to say "anyone". My bad on that. But even with the price of the Eye added to the PS4, it's still cheaper than the X1. I'm not saying that Sony wouldn't have charged $500 for the bundle, it's definitely possible they were gonna do the exact same thing as Microsoft, but Sony's committed to winning this generation, so I don't think they would've. They did change it being packaged with the PS4 at the last second, but it was still a smart move. Whether it was to undercut Microsoft or realizing that stuff like that shouldn't be mandatory for a console is another story, though.

But at the same time, I saw screenshots of the new Call Of Duty for 360 and One, maybe not the best game to rate graphics on, but there was very little difference between the two. I understand that we may be hitting the ceiling for graphics, but when you make a system that only has slightly better graphics than the previous one, it's underpowered.

You'll never see a massive improvement in graphics with launch titles, at least not anymore. This is especially true of games that are developed for both the new console and the legacy console simultaneously.

In general, it takes a couple years before developers are able to finally push the limits of the hardware.

MSFT has stated that the Kinect won't be required to operate the console, but that doesn't mean game developers won't incorporate it as part of the controls for a game.

You're right, it does take some time for consoles for the graphics to get better. But I can actually see the graphic improvements between the PS3 and PS4. It's only because the PS4 can actually have 1080p graphics without the system freezing up, but still, if Sony was able to make a system with noticeably better graphics, Microsoft should've been able to, as well. That might be asking too much, but you can't declare your system the future of gaming when there's another system that could run circles around you in the graphics department.

And if you want to use Kinect for that, that's fine. To each is own, but I don't. I just want to use a controller. There's nothing wrong with that, is there? If I wanted to move around for a game, I would go outside and play basketball, not turn on an X1.

It's just baffling that they don't require Kinect 2.0 for the X1 to work anymore, but refuse to sell them separately. If you're still forcing people to buy it, then why even change it?

It may be just for the launch version of the console, similar to how the later Slim models of the 360 didn't come packaged with a HDD, and only have 4 gigs of flash memory.

And have there been any live gaming events featuring the PS4? I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the footage you spoke about was pre-rendered; as I recall, Sony did the same thing with Killzone when they announced the PS3.

No, but I watched the E3 internet feed. They showed live demos of Destiny and Assassin's Creed 4 on PS4. I thought they looked amazing. You could visually see that they were next-gen games. I really liked the trailer for The Order 1886, but I don't hold my breath for stuff that doesn't show gameplay. Unfortunately, they really don't have many of those live events here in Minnesota. But I'll get a chance to try them both. Even after all I said, I'm trying to keep an open mind. Microsoft has bit the bullet and changed their policies (only because of the money lost, but still), so I will try the X1 and give it a shot. But I still won't buy it with Kinect. it's PS4, until then.

i love how you think kinect is a gimmick, you'd be surprised at how much you will use it, honestly the motion control gaming for kinect 1.0 was severely limited. i wasnt lying when i said kinect 2.0 has been improved 100x it can read your facial expression, it can pick up your heart rate, it can read finger movement. let's put this into context lets say you're playing a poker sim and the kinect uses a system to read your face the AI thinks youre bluffing and can read it BAM instant game changing realism brught to a simple game of hold em. lets say your playing the next great survival horror, kinect picks up on your heightened heart rate and the AI picks the perfect moment to scare the living bejeezus out of you, there are already instances ive seen where you can scan your face and have a perfect representation of your actual face on your character, elder scrolls and fallout character creation done in an instant if you wish. and in project spark you can map movement onto an NPC just as if you were wearing a mocap suit and even give it dialogue using kinect's microphone, you can make FULL games and characters with your friends playing voice actors. and i know for a fact all the voice commands will be just fine, walking into my room and saying xbox on and bam thats it wanna watch netflix? never even needed to turn on my controller and waste battery. i bet i can even key it to only recognize my voice. so when you say its a gimmick i want you to stop and think for a second on the endless possibilities of the few i just pointed out. and the beauty of it is EVERY X1 owner will have a kinect and every developer knows this and will NEVER have to hold back when utilizing it for development. kinect 1.0 died because the risk vs reward was to high, the time the risk vs reward is literally zero and who wins in the end? we do

If it wasn't included with every console, developers would have less incentive to write games and apps that make use of it.

The "not required" part was a concession by Microsoft to the tinfoil hat crowd that think the NSA is going to be using it to listen in on them and/or watch them (despite the fact that most of these people are voicing their concerns using a notebook or tablet that has a webcam and microphone).

I think what they say that the Kinect 2.0 can do is cool, but you gotta remember that this is being made by Microsoft, who totally screwed up the first Kinect, and had 360s dying left and right until they came out with the Slim. I'm not saying that the X1 is gonna have any of the same problems, (they spent billions of dollars for R&D for this console, it better not) but with their track record, you can't confidently say that the X1 and Kinect 2.0 won't have any problems. And, actually, the risk is high for Microsoft from a business standpoint. There was a story that came out that said that it cost just as much to make Kinect 2.0 as an X1. So if that means that if the X1 cost, by itself, is $400, then so does the Kinect 2.0. To sell those together for a $300 loss, even with XBox Live revenue to fall back on, is very risky. Of course, this is just theoretical, as we don't have any idea how much it cost to make an X1, but if it's true, it would've been smarter and less risky to sell those separately. But then again, maybe this is Microsoft's way of pulling out all the stops to win this generation.

And all that stuff you listed, while cool to have, is still a gimmick. Like I said before, when I get to try it, I might change my mind, but, as of this moment, that stuff isn't a necessity to me. I only need a controller for my games. And so do a lot of other people. Real gamers are always up for innovation, but they also want the option of getting that innovation IF THEY WANT IT. Microsoft isn't giving that option to us. It's just "The only way to get this is with Kinect". If that's the only choice you're gonna give me, then, fine. My money's going to Sony then, where I can choose to have The Eye, if I want it.

The question still lies unanswered (as far as I know).

Will there be a CR app for the next gen or not? (best hopes for @ launch) Otherwise I won't bother plugging in my XB1 till then. I do most of my watching through my 360.

I believe the CR logo was one of the featured companies when Sony announced the range of apps available at launch time.

Getting both PS4 and Xbox One.... Both systems are good in their own perspective. I just got the Xbox one first because their xbox live service is great. Most of my friends play Xbox anyway. I just play PS4 for their exclusive games.

Exactly. I could care less about your petty opinion about the kinect. Its the brink of the future, and people are pushing it away. I think its a superb thing and it works great! Dont hate appreciate technology moving forward, that or go back to sticks and stones.
