Artificial Intelligence
Posted 1/27/08
As we know people see humans as the most perfect beings on this planet. Which means that we will try to accomodate this robots intelligences to our own. And as we know human's mind is illogical and incomprehensible, basically ungraspable. Which means that the robot who will have a human mind programmed in his system, will also likely act like a human being with feelings(though they might be fake, who knows), which will also lead to an own way of thinking by the robot. And that means that the robot will be able to act on his own, with no orders needed anymore, which also means that he might disobey the rules(since he has a human mind implanted in his artificial brain). It is in human's nature to break the rules and live for their own way of thinking, which means that the robot will most probably/likely do the same.

And I think it is bad to rely too much on technology. We all know that when the time comes where there will be some problems with magnetic fields that our technology will go berserk. Or any other plausible reason. I am too lazy to point them out now....

You guys realize that error free programming technique exist right? It is called clean room.

Edit: wth I thought this is suppose to be intelligent thread. Why I even bother =P

they will kill us all
jk i think that wont be a problem if the
people who make them put in some kind
of automatic shutdown if them try to hurt someone
or try's to take over the earth

I think you're assuming too much about human intelligence.

i really dont think its a good idea to reliy that much on AI or in computers at all cause .. in the future if we do then when it shuts down for even one day a whole city might shut down and not be able to function ... like when the server shuts down at school all the teachers are running around all messed up and stuff cause they can input grades or take attendance ect.. ect...
but yeah what would i do with out technology

i think anything created by man is ultimatly falible ....just like man.....if artificial inteligence becomes bigger than it is now i think in reality it will do what ever it can to preserve itself....i mean we do and that includes killing others.....but i dont think it will ever come to that at least not in my lifetime!

I find it a very fascinating subject to talk about, the idea of creating an artificial intelligence is a dream of mine.
I always studied A.I in video games, but never really gone into it in much depth.
It would be great to create an android/robot with fixed A.I, but if it then went on to develop it's own personality and traits, that would indeed be fantastic.

That is such an ideal, that computers will only obey our commands. Computers make the most mistakes and even good programming can lead to errors, haven't you ever heard the phrase "To err is human, to truly screw things up requires a computer". I don't ever see the possibility of AI existing though, since Ai is man trying to create something in his own image, not only are they incapable of creating something that could rebell against them but they would never let such a thing happen.

Humans get sick at the idea of having another intelligent lifeform to rival their own. On a completely diffrent note, much unity between humans would be achieved should they have a common enemy so if i am wrong and AI is made on par or above humans i don't consider it such a bad thing.

actually, a part of his question was will computers be able to achieve human emotions and a mind of its own that could lead for it to rebel against you. that is what i don't agree with. computers may over analyze an order and do something different from what it is programmed to do. thus, making a mistake. but that is not its mistake, it's by the human that programmed it. if he only limited its task then something as simple as that, even if the computer will make a mistake, won't lead to a war between computers and humans.

i don't mind having another intelligent lifeform roaming around with us because i personally think that humans are not that intelligent like the way they think they are. computers may even have the ability to be smarter than humans but i still don't see the probability of computers to have emotions that humans have. i can't even imagine a computer to cry because it was scolded or feel all warm and fuzzy inside when hugged.

If their reason to exist differs from us, then they would not have achieved sentience as we our common definitions prescribes it.

The real line separating Intellect and Artificial Intellect is not whether something is programmable. It is the NATURE of the program. The human psyche and the robot hard-drive are not as different as you might imagine. Free will is but a comforting thought, whether it truly exists is a question of debate in itself. But back to our topic, both 'minds' are guided by a set of, rules, if you will. The rules appear in humans as hormones and instincts, in robots as lines upon lines of codes. A.I. appears to be logical, because it is our logical minds that created/wrote their rules to which they function. If the 'why' portion to how humans behave was solved completely and without a doubt, after the examination of a person's 'why' portion, we would also be able to predict how such a person will respond in any situation, or the probability of a certain decision in an unknown situation.

As I mentioned before, the difference lies in the nature of these rules, as human beings are able to self-manipulate new rules into existence by means of experience. A robot whom has achieved sentience, by the conventional definition, will be able to do the same. The only way for such an AI sentient existence to...exist is if the AI has an interest and understanding of 'self'(for without such, it will not self-upgrade with new 'rules'). And such an understand will in the near future of this AI's existence morph itself with its newfound capabilities into an ego on par with man. This is the only scenario that could possibly result with a 'true' sentient robotic race annihilating human beings to take over the world.

Any other scenario will only be a result in what I have mentioned in a previous post. A careless programmer at a nuclear bomb facility shooting himself, and the entire human race, in the foot by a program bug which loopholes to the AI following 'predetermined' rules and destroying humans on a technicality.

Actually no, I was wrong. Let me rephrase what i said. Dunno if this will make sense, but i'll try spilling it out anyway.

The purpose of any being in this world can be simplified to only 4 things: to survive (hence the need of food, water etc), to reproduce, to seek pleasure, and to avoid pain.

A.I. *is* created by human logic. So it'll more or less have a human mind as you said. They will irrevocably be programmed to have this 4 basic purpose of existance too. But... i'd theorized, while their mind is programmed this way, unlike us, their machine body doesn't require them to seek pleasure and to avoid pain like we do. They just won't have the hormones and emotions to.

I know this is still debatable. Because they have to be programmed exactly like us to be sentient. I get what you mean. But still. Even if they are programmed to have the same instinct and emotions as us. It'll be artificial. The need for pleasure and to avoid pain (which leads to the same human ego) will be artificial.

But the other 2 purpose of their existance will remain true. The need to survive and reproduce will remain true. With A.I, these purposes of existance will take higher priority than the other 2. Something, that we as a human realize, we need to prioritize more. But our ego always gets in the way.

If it comes to world war 3. I have no doubt there's gonna be these bunch of human idiots that's blinded enough by their personal idealism/emotion/etc to actually throw a nuclear bomb and unleash it on this earth. They should know deep down that it'll kill themselves. But yet they'll push the buttons anyway. Why all the madness? it all comes down the pleasure/pain thing. it's the ego. (maybe they just like to win, or maybe they are scared of other country's threat, whatever)

You got sane people in this earth too though. You'll get some that *isn't* ego driven. And what price does that sanity cost? very little.. just the willingness to put our ego away for a little while and think about the real consequences.

I pointed out to you that A.I. will most likely to prioritize the other 2 reason of their existance. That'll mean they'll be like those people that *isn't* ego driven in this world. Which means, not only it'll lead to a more sane decision for that hypothetical nuclear war above, it'll also lead to many more sane decisions that'll better the civilizations in this earth.

So i'll still stick to my opinion. If they somehow, someday take over this earth. Then it'll be for the better of our own survival.

haha yea we do depend on technology too much. Most students depend on the internet to do everything now and forget about books and such. without the internet i bet 60 % of students in college now would drop out.
