Waiting a month between chapters is too long or this addled brain. Reading this new chapter I was upset Akamatsu-san was apparently pulling another speed-ending to the series. Whew!

That pairing is still stupid and out of left field.

I know right, how did the best girl win. Does the author not know that best girl must always lose.

Also, UQ Holder is the alternate reality where Asuna sleep too long. Good to know.

Chisame as partner was about the weirdest thing I could have imagined happening. She was always more or less a background character, and they had very little time together in the series (according to my admittedly vague recollection). Asuna was almost certainly the main heroine, and even her aside, Negi had far more time together with several of the others.

Chisame was with him the longest on Inverse Mars. He rescued her in the forest and she was there for all of his training with Rakkan. After Asuna and Eva she spent the most time with Negi

She was also his number one supporter in terms of his emotions and advice. She might not have been a fighter but she watched over him and helped him when he needed it most. I can see why Negi would fall for her over the others.

This was was a surprise ship I never expected to sail anywhere but fan fiction I was always on team Library Girls , but it is one I like Chisame is a good match with Negi they have a well developed bond by the ending.

Negima was and remains a cherished series, and had arguably the most notable impact in pursuing art as at minimal a hobby, along with the character growth and dynamic combat serving as further inspiration, going back to at least Love Hina as well the drama filled and painfully earned satisfaction of enduring the emotional waves all throughout.

With this most recent chapter, it was immensely gratifying to, at long last, finally, have a thoughtful closure to how Negima was abruptly ended roughly 7 years ago - the year I attended Otakon as Nagi Springfield and nobody recognized me... but, erm, moving along.

Some may take dissatisfaction with Chisame and Negi ultimately together, but for multiple reasons I feel it wholly tasteful and if nothing else then practical and tactical - I shall elucidate:

1) Given the light harem nature the series had adopted, as appears typical with Akamatsu-san (and why we appreciate his story weaving and humour, as at least one factor), and given the class size of 3-A and the literal decade running time of the series for all of us to adopt fanfics and ships and OTPs and pairing factions and personal attachments, etc.. from an authorship perspective, it can be quite tactical to introduce an underplayed element which goes against the grain, which is to suggest nothing of such reciprocation amongst readership, but merely from as a method to minimize negativity from said readership. Thus, going with Chisame seems wise from that angle at least, which is admittedly more robotic and certainly not my main reason by far.

2) As others have made mention, Chisame and Negi did develop a strong bond through much strife and turmoil, and their feelings were exposed and seemed more meaningful than some other of the girls' less deep connections, if I had to put a few words to it whilst not denigrating nor dismissing other girls' genuine feelings for him. Yes, he made Pactios with everyone, but some were more difficult due to the nature of those girls' true feelings, whether they would admit it to themselves. That is another reason supporting why Chisame made sense, because of their level of deep respect for each other past admiration and tents of hormones.

3) In the end, Chisame did reject Negi at first, and seemed to feel that his affections would be more deserved by another, itself a humbling notion if even she did not fully accept her more pure feelings at the time. Had she accepted then, I have a feeling Negi would not have grown as much as he did, though of course that at best seems bias and spotty speculation on my part. Plus, it seemed to give a nod to Love Hina with a sort of mixed and matched Naru and Keitaro feel, which rendered me positively giddy :3

Some site thoughts, lest it be claimed otherwise:

I was pulling for both Nodoka and Yue from early on! Alas, that is not how events unfolded.

Hooray for Eva finally marrying Nagi! It took them long enough...

Overall, this most recent chapter has been a boon to my outlook at UQ Holder, which to be certain I have been enjoying from the first chapter and continue doing so!

Bravo, Akamatsu-san!

*edit* the immortal missed words and grammar, ever shall they surface...

At the end of Negima! in the cast wrap-up, Here's what is entered for Chisame (from Volume 38, "335th Period", page... I just realized even though there's page numbers in the volume table of contents, there's no actual page numbers on the individual pages!!!):

Seat Number 25: Chisame Hasegawa

After graduating college, she became a complete shut-in and internet junkie. Nevertheless, Negi still places a great deal of trust in her, and she does a lot of work behind the scenes. She is a Special Adviser to the ISSDA.

So the "complete shut-in" was getting giggity with Negi behind everyone's back? I guess that would qualify as "a lot of work behind the scenes." Well-played, Hasegawa-chan! Well-played!

I may be miss-remembering, but I think Akamatsu once said Chisame was based on Naru Narusegawa, the main love interest and eventual bride to Keitaro Urashima, the male lead in Love Hina. So, in a way, a Chisame Negi pairing would be Akamatsu repeating himself.

That's about right. Chisame and Asuna are both Naru 2.0. Chisame got her tsundere side and braided glasses look and Asuna took her non-glasses, older dude loving, crazier side. It always felt like Negi would end up with one of these two given that (though I preferred Chisame, really happy to see a resolution out of that after all these years) At the beginning of the series it really seemed like Asuna would develop feelings for Negi and they'd end up together but never really grew out of her big sister role.

I think it wasn't really until when everyone got stuck in the magical world that I thought that she had any shot. She played a fairly major role in the plot from then on.

Really, maybe it should've been more obvious to us, as the story went on, everything about Chisame started to resemble Naru more and more where Asuna sorta came into her own.

And Kirie is basically Chisame 2.0, and Naru's closest successor in UQ holder, so I'd expect Touta to end up with Kirie (particularly after the more recent events of the manga)

How to explain the happiness of finally finding out the "Happy Ending" for Negima!!! Cant wait to see where things lead from here on out! Also, bravo to the author for putting out a sequel that actually does a great job of closing out the already wonderful original! I need more mangas like this in my life!

Indeed so, I am lacking for felt sufficient words to describe the relief and elation which came over me ^^; It notes at least two different things:

1) We are seeing the story of what is more like the "original" time line play out, where as the "cheat code" story line is what transpired through the end of Negima, just recently seeing a summary version of what would have been an entire arch or more, with everyone happy and the satisfaction all the more with knowing the stakes and tribulations - that is, at least in one time line, Nodoka, Yue, and the rest had happy lives and are certainly not presently attacking the Holders ^^;

2) It seems to intensify UQ Holder with the above knowledge, no longer worrying about that other time line, now focusing on this time line where anything goes and can be quite bold in how it proceeds.. to a point, at least, whilst resting in the back of mind is that this is the "original," carrying with it the potential emotional baggage and connotations~

Just some thoughts at least, and regardless it remains relief more than aught else that there is a time line where that inexplicable ending in Negima is a reality <3
