Whenever I start to lose hope in the world I watch this.

There is, but it takes a lot more time and effort because back then things were a lot less complicated compared to today. Not to mention you have to navigate through life's mess and sea of people to find your own inner peace, hope, happiness, etc, or die trying.

Hope in what context?

That's a good question... I'm not really sure I know, myself!

Any context would be fine, I suppose.

Hopeless. We are the universe looking back on itself in the confines of our biology. Even if conceptually we could agree on a path that would benefit everyone, it is our carbon-based forms that will keep us from that.

There is always hope...
Hope that someone else will fail so hard that your life will look PERFECT compared to theirs.
You can be entertained by their suffering while ignoring your own plight.
Yay!

I'd say hopeless. The number of bad things in the world cancel out the little good. I don't see much of a point in living. But I guess I just have a morbid outlook on things.

Everything is as it should be. Unfortunately the horrible crap that goes on in this world is two fold, sometimes it encourages people to imitate or get away with their own things and sometimes it causes people to rise up and do something about the problem. If you think about it, what is good without bad and how do we develop as a species or culture with out problems to address. It would be absolutely great to think that there would be no problems in the world and that all the bad and ugliness would disappear one day. But it won't, the best we can hope for is that it will inspire people to be better in a sense of helping and understanding others and their situations. But in the long run we live in a tormented existence thrust into a chaotic universe and what's left behind after you pass is the impression you leave on others and how they interpret that impression. Whether it be good or bad is all dependent on how people take it and use it for the future, and in all honestly some will take it positively and some will take it negatively. But in the end it will all work out the way it's supposed to. As I tend to tell people when they complain about work. How can you enjoy a weekend when you never had a work week.

Is there hope in this world-- in this day and age?

I personally don't have any hope for the future of this world. I should note that I'm a pretty negative person most of the time by choice. I choose to expect the worst out of small things in hopes of reducing the disappointment. That being said I do hope for little things and small situations but in the big picture I want nothing to do with the future of this world.

I know I come off as super negative but I just can't help but realize that the world we live in could easily be so much better. Humanity has done amazing things but ultimately is failing. In my life time I can only hope to witness amazing inventions and technological advancements but I have no doubt that they will mostly go to waste, be discarded or somehow used to exploit humanity for profit. No children of mine will have anything to do with this.

We are living in some of the craziest times in history, at least from my point of view. There are going to be some incredibly drastic changes on a worldwide scale in the very near future. The United States are kaput but won't go down without a few more wars under its belt. Let's just hope none of them lead to WWIII. Unfortunately while backing Israel and hearing all this noise about Syria that future is looking pretty grim but that's a whole other discussion. Let's not get into it.

I may have gone a little overboard with this one. I've rambled enough but I hope I've gotten some kind of point across.
