Ghilbli has more emotionally in depth movies with much better lessons than Disney.

Even though I grew up with Disney, I much prefer Ghibli because they feature real characters instead of that 1-dimensional damsel in distress Disney liked to spew out until recently. They are slowly getting better, but not moving fast enough and still messing things up as usual. Their latest screw up in the adaptation department is the film Frozen. The book it is based on, had pretty much all female characters, now in the movie it has only two female characters and everyone else was changed to male. Meaning old habits die hard.

Both do amazing work, but I choose Ghibli for the realistic way they portray life, kids, and growing up. Even the fantastical Studio Ghibli movies have characters that feel like real people. And you will never see a parent get frustrated, grab a beer from the fridge and then have it blow up when they open it in a Disney movie (Ponyo). I can relate to the characters in Ghibli movies, it is harder to relate to the Disney characters.

I guess my childhood started with Disney, but given the choice to choose between Disney and Ghibli I would choose Ghibli. I would much rather learn animation from Miyazaki Hayao as well.

Studio Ghibli because their films are deep, while Disney always seems to follow the same old 'damsel in distress' plot line with the damn princess movies. Also, I absolutely loathe cheesy humor. I admit, some Disney moves are excellent, but I have yet to see a complete crap move from Ghibli.

Both. I grew up with Disney and have recently (within the past few years) discovered and fallen in love with Studio Ghibli.

I'm a huge Disney kid…but I'm also a huge Ghibli fan, and my movie collection has a pretty big assortment of both…so I really can't decide between favorites:) (I'm so indecisive) I love them both!!!!

At the end of the day I think I like Ghibli a little more than Disney, even if Disney is the group I grew up with

They're just slipping so much right now and besides, Ghibli is awesome

Disney started my love of animation. If it wasn't for the classics I wouldn't even be posting on this forum. Disney also has better animated movies overall, though Disney has more history than Ghibli.
