If you where to ask my friend Peter he'd say there has been no good anime since the mid 2000s.

He detests slice of life, he can't stand moe, he wants to throttle every studio exec that gives production time to harem and ecchi. He can't stand fan service, or stereotypes like Tsundere.

When he starts talking about anime he's all about how anime used to be good, used pushed the boundaries in the past with the likes of GiTs, Akira, Macross, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, dirty pair, patlabor, dominion tank police...

so I sent him links to Kiss X Sis

Personally, I dunno. Maybe a little worse in some respects, better in others. The fanservice has got to levels where im surprised when I find a series without high levels of it. Also I do also have an issue with the lack of unique characters over favoring stereotypes.

There are still some really standout series there, but the issues the industry is having and their having to focus on otaku to keep surviving I think is hurting the quality.

Having read the article "Where your Crunchyroll dollars really go" I hope the rise in anime internationally helps bolster the industry to allow them bring back what they've lost.

All depends out your personal taste, and to whether or not they change over time because I think that anime has remained fairly the same.

Staying the same. Every story is different. The animation technology changes, but I can't say that I am more fond of cg or the old school animation more, I like them both equally for different reasons. There are some old stories I like better than new ones and vice versa. My favorite anime list grows, it doesn't really change.

Maybe it's my luck but so far the anime titles I've watched lately:

Mekakucity Actors
The World is Still Beautiful
Brynhildr in the Darkness
One Week Friends
Black Bullet
The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior
Nanana's Buried Treasure
The Comic Artist and His Assistants
No Game, No Life

have been solid but I definitely had a feeling I've seen these parts incorporated from other anime (Mekakucity Actors = Bakemonogatari) like the art style and animations. In the end though, I didn't care because what was important to me was just being entertained with new characters, and plots. I know some people might argue with me that some of them are carbon copies of titles already out there but you know I guess I got attracted to these titles because I felt connected to them despite already knowing they share a lot with titles I've seen.

There are certainly bad anime titles out there that I'm sure I haven't encountered but sometimes I found what I thought was bad maybe wasn't so bad after I replayed it. Even so, I give companies a chance to keep at it as one day I'm sure their bad anime will turn into a good anime

I agree with this.

There will always be good and bad anime.

No matter how many years pass by, it will always stay the same.
- anime characters archetypes
- scenery depending on the genre of the story
- the art/designs
- the slang words they use

I think it's getting better actually. If someone can't see the gems coming out today, then that's just willful ignorance

I like the anime I grew up with, so if you ask me, I prefer that era. Do I like some current? Of course.

The anime I watched growing up were Bleach, some naruto, and some Pokemon. The only good one I remember was Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo

I'm not sure, it's very different that's for sure. Of course the quality (video and audio) is better, but a lot of things have changed in anime.
