when people say "i'l wait till the series is finished then marathon it, i can't wait every week" i just don't get them.

for me personally i like ongoing anime for various reasons.

One being there will be discussion, youtube reviews/reactions ,hype surrounding the anime each week and people to share you views with RIGHT AFTER watching the episode. this helps renew your love for the anime and give a nice fresh feeling to the show.

if i was to go watch a finished series and it left me mesmerized i would have no way of expressing my emotions to people because even if i was to talk to someone who already watched it some time ago it wouldn't be the same because he/she probably doesn't have the same feeling from when he/she first finished watching the show.

so yeah i don't mind at all waiting each week and sharing all the excitement with tons of people/friends.
and it's not even half bad if you're following a bunch of simulcasts it keeps you busy all week long.

but that's just me, what do you think?

I've never really waited for a series to finish before I finished it.

I have watched a series and put it on hold for a long time, the lastest one was strike witches s2 took 3 years? (lol)

Anyways, I don't really marathon stuff, unless it was finished a long time ago in which I didn't have knowledge of.

Mixed feelings about this. I like being able to marathon a show because I feel like that is the most immersive, impacting way to watch an anime. However, I kinda suck at taking breaks when I'm marathoning something, which means I end up procrastinating on more important things I'm supposed to be doing instead eheheheh

On the other hand, I do enjoy being able to talk and theorize with people during an ongoing show's course. For example, I LOVED wigging out with everyone after AoT 21 yesterday. That was a blast and really a fun community moment.

I totally agree with you, especially since I don't like to marathon much. Sometimes, when a show is really good, it really bugs me having to wait a whole week for what seems to be just a little over 5 minutes, but I like to look forward to a certain day of the week because I know after a long day, I'll be able to thoroughly enjoy the latest episode of a series. And to be able to discuss the ongoing plot week by week is a nice plus.

Marathon is the best way of watching imo. Watching anime weekly that only last 20 mins per episode is very....unsatisfying. That 20 mins goes by VERY fast. You dont feel as connected to the anime when watching it weekly. I dont understand how someone can stand waiting one week for an episode that only last 20 mins only to feel disappointed. For example, Naruto, it a good anime but it has its share of "flashback" episodes which is EHHHHH. So marathon for me plz.

PS: CLIFFHANGERS SUCK

I like either one, Although both have flaws. An ongoing series always leaves me feeling more suspense then a finished one when they show the preview, because I have to wait until next week to find out what happens which for me, is a good thing most of the time. As for a finished show I don't have to wait, because the episode has most likely already been released. But the problem that eventually rises for me with a finished show is that if the show happens to be short, then I have problems sparing the episodes as I tend to do "marathons" of the show ( angel beats is a HUGE example of this.) Also at the end of the whole series, when I finish I feel pretty empty and sad that it's over (DVD time!) The problem with ongoing series is actually the side effect that suspense brings which for me is impatience, because I have to wait a whole week for the new episode.

I've seen a thread similar to this before but anyways...

I used to marathon stuff but then I noticed a lack of discussion that I can have with my friends since it's rare that they would watch the exact same series @ the exact same time as me. I tend to follow most of the ongoing series now and also marathon one series generally at a time while watching ongoing titles, sometimes a movie or two on the weekends if I feel like it.

Ongoing anime are prone to these really annoying plot elements that I hate, especially if they're action/dramas.

I don't think I need to see 'It will take me about 26 episodes to gain the power to defeat this previously unknown but totally scary big bad!! PS: Totally forget that I did the exact same thing last season!' ever again.

I like both. If a anime is on-going i will watch it and not wait for it. Yeah its not fun waiting a week for a episode but having that excitement and wondering what will happen next is always good. I love to marathon finished series. The only time i would ever wait for a show to finish airing is if the show is really censored( i.e. huge white marks or logo's covering areas always annoy me). Other than that i probably dont wait till its finished airing unless. Usually after a good show finishes airing, i will re-watch it, in marathon mode.

I actually prefer watching a series that is being Simulcast for the first time. when I have an entire series at my disposal, sometimes I watch the whole thing in one sitting and I never can quite enjoy it as much as I would if I had to wait for each episode to premiere. my number one example of me watching an entire anime in one sitting then feeling disappointed in myself afterwards was Elfen Lied. I feel like I coulda enjoyed that one better had I waited and not splurged.

so, what I do when I come across an old Anime series that I REALLY enjoy is space out the Episodes a few days to a week at a time. I waited 2-3weeks to watch the final episode of Rinne no Lagrange. I'm currently obsessed w/Nabari no Ou and there's 52 total Episodes, I discovered this Anime about 2weeks ago and I'm only on Episode 14.

-edit-

in the end, if I do splurge through a series, I'll re-watch it. in a way, it defeats the purpose for me to blow through it all. I miss so much and I think so little about what the Anime is trying to deliver in terms of a story. personally, it's best to take my time. that applies to a-lot of things in this world though.

i LOVE cliffhangers it makes me look forward to next week's episode and i also like suspense and looking forward for something for example Saturday is just an amazing day for me right now because of the HxH and AOTepisodes.

I prefer watching ongoing series as well. Even if i'm watching a finished series, i'll spread it out over the course of a few weeks or so (sometimes longer if it's not plot intensive).

I like to pace myself because it allows me to enjoy the series more. I realize how much i like a series by noticing how excited I am to see the next episode. Also, I like watching multiple series simultaneously, and marathoning shows really makes that difficult. Once you marathon it, that's it. You're done. You'll never regain that experience of watching it for the first time ever again. I like to spread that feeling out because it leaves a bigger impression for me personally. That's just me, though.

Edit: Plus dem spoilers, man.... dem spoilers... They're the only things that will make me marathon a finished show. But most of the time I just promise myself to avoid all internet contact with the show until i'm done.

I prefer simulcast because if I put the series on hold and marathon them later, I would lose interest and forget about them. Plus if I marathon, I would miss the fun of discussion, seeing people's reactions, and sharing my reactions.

I put the series on hold if only they get on my nerve.
