Oh, I do like the look of Rin! And the Railgun characters...

Wow, now I've got a choice to make Thanks for all your suggestions, I will probably go with Rin because she's SO simple and honestly, I don't have a lot of time
I think I'll do Touko at the con after the next one for the same reason!

Thanks again for your help!

My turn!

I'm 5'9", with brown hair, but have no problems wearing a wig. My favorite character types are what I'd call flawed heroes - Gourry (idiot hero), Parn (looks at things in too much of an absolute good vs evil manner to start), etc.

Anime or games are fine for me, and I can make armor or props, but sewing is a bit harder.. but I can trade with friends for sewing beyond my skill level or to add embroidery, even fancy stuff that needs a computer.

Don't like taking selfies, and hate shaving, sorry..

Any suggestions?

Hm.. since you like Date A Live, maybe Tohka? Not sure what else you're interested in, or what kinds of features you're after in your cosplay, though!

It's hard to tell because of the facial hair, but I feel like you'd make a pretty decent Seifer from Final Fantasy VIII.

If you ever wanted to stray from Anime/Games, you also remind me of Thor. ;)

I'd never thought of Thor before, even though I keep wanting to make his hammer as a fun prop.. thanks!

Hmmmm... Haruka has lots of outfit options, and you could probably fit your hair to one of them. I know it's possible to put that much hair under a wigcap for other costumes, but it can be a pain! Lilliana looks like she'd be fun, but needs lots of makeup, so you probably couldn't stay in costume long without it cracking off and falling onto your costume. A couple of weeks isn't much time, I'd go with Haruka if I were you. With your hair, though.. if you had the time, I have so many ideas!

If you've got the time... Deedlit from Record of Lodoss War is always a favorite.

Ayase Eri from Love Live has long blond hair and a ton of outfits to choose from (maid, school uniform, many many others), and she's new enough that not many people would cosplay as her.

From the video game side, Sophitia from Soul Calibur (at least, the older games) might be fun.

I'm struggling to think of a good cosplay for a comic con I'm going to in about a month, mainly due to finding a bearded character that is recognisable and easy to cosplay.
I did think about Rider from Fate/Zero, but might be a bit too difficult.
If anyone has any better ideas they will certainly be considered.

Hm, keeping the beard makes it tough! Rider's got several outfits - his full armored form, his t-shirt & pants version, and a few others I've seen, so maybe one of those could work? If you're looking at older anime, Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star had a beard for a while, he might work as well. Beards are so rare, this one is tough!

Have you thought about Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon, by any chance (assuming you don't mind a wig)? On a less sailor outfit front, Meryl from Trigun might be fun (and involve as many guns as you want to make/buy). If you're open to dying your hair, Eimi from Comic Party could be fun, too, and she's rarely seen.

So I'm planning on going to Anime Expo 2014, my first con ever. It's a little ways away obviously, but I figure it wouldn't hurt brainstorming ideas now. I know next to nothing about sewing, costume making etc., but I'd want to learn and I don't just want to buy a costume already made. Buying accessories and small stuff like that is okay, I just mean not mass produced costumes that are all ready for you to wear. I have long dark brown hair, but I wouldn't mind wearing a wig.

I have a few ideas of characters I could possibly cosplay that (I think) wouldn't require a whole lot skills to put together: Sakura from Street Fighter, Sailor Jupiter or Mars, Hinata Hyuga from Naruto, a crossplay of Kotetsu T. Kaburagi from Tiger & Bunny.

If anyone knows of other simple, beginner friendly ones, please do share.

If I could indulge my old-school roots for a moment.. Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku. She could be a character that's partly off the normal clothing rack, with a slightly customized apron that you could paint, sew, or do in a variety of other ways. And a broom that you could probably buy, or make yourself to try out making props. And I don't think I've ever seen one at a con!

Sakura will probably be a bit easier than Sailor Jupiter/Mars, since Sakura's outfit is a bit more 'standard', but there are lots of tutorials around to show how to make a Sailor Moon-esque outfit, and it might be more fun to do more of the work yourself...
