It shouldn't come as a surprise that Cuidad Juarez isn't the most pleasant place in the world, and even if you don't make it a point to keep up with the world news you may still have heard of incidents of rape occurring on buses in the more dangerous cities of the world. In some places it's more rampant than others.

In Juarez, many women returning home from late work shifts rely on public transportation, and over the last two decades hundreds of women have gone missing--the dead bodies of some are found later showing indications of rape. The drivers of these buses are suspected since many of the women were never seen exiting the bus.

More interesting, are these new stories of a women dressed in black with atypical blonde hair who has apparently been killing bus drivers as an act of revenge...

This is her alleged message:

“You think because we are women we are weak, and maybe we are,” the message says. “But only to a certain point.... We can no longer remain quiet over these acts that fill us with rage.

“And so, I am an instrument who will take vengeance.”

Signed: Diana, Huntress of Bus Drivers.

This is pretty far out there by my standards (not revenge, but the comic-book vigilantism), so I thought I'd share.

Thoughts?

She could have been more creative with her name than "Diana, the Huntress of bus drivers". Something more fitting of a masked vigilante.

cazadora de conductores de autobús

^Huntress of Bus Drivers in Spanish

Also, she doesn't do anything particularly flashy beyond her get-up and message, she just shoots them at point blank range.

It'd be unfortunate if this sort of behavior motivated people to kill innocent drivers because of their occupation, but I am morbidly curious to see what would happen if Juarez's women all began dressing like her when using public transport...

Even though I can't really support the killing of people who haven't been proven guilty... I have to admit, this is kinda cool in its own way. Provided that the victims had it coming of course. Which I can only hope.

Also hope that this sends a message to other potential rapist bus drivers.

I don't think she knows exactly if her targets are guilty or not, which is a shame really! but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to make things work out for you and in this case, she is fighting for all the girls who were killed and raped and maybe, those who thought about raping an innocent girl will think twice now and not do anything.

I applaud her courage!

Well I hope she confirms their innocence or guilt first, otherwise she'd just be another murderer herself.

Doesn't seem like anyone was doing anything about the rapes so she felt she had to take the law into her own hands instead of just sitting by and doing nothing. There are women's groups in India also banding together to punish rapists by force.

Vigilantism is not good though, but if you don't take things like rape or the murder of women seriously you'll drive people to things like this.

There's a lot of things that go own down in MX. This hardly surprises me and it only scratches the surface considering the stuff that goes on down there.

There's a lot of stuff illegal down there so people who want to abide by the law don't have much options. To top it off, the law-enforces do a lot of law-breaking to make a quick buck.

My buddy gave illustrated it to me by comparing the type of payment LEO gets for doing their job, and the type of payment organize crime gives for doing a favor for them in their behalf. When it means your feeding your family, how many laws would you break to feed your children? That sort of thing.

Were too comfortable here in the US to have a remote 'understanding' of what goes on else where. And that was made clear to me when my buddy moved down to MX out of his hate for the good ol U.S. of A. In due time, he wanted his rights back.

I don't see anything lol-worthy in a story about a town whose women have been terrorized for decades, and the law enforcement has proved so null that these kind of actions have to be taken. It's not something I can easily say "Yay for you sister" but I can't call her a psycho murderer that should be put behind the bars asap, when the sense of danger and constant threat that are part of her and many other women's reality is so overwhelming and the feeling of powerlesness against a non-existent justice system must be enough to drive anyone insane.

I live in Mexico (very very far away from Juarez) and hear the stories and numbers of women who get killed and raped, not only in ther north, but in the Estado de México too, every-freaking-day. I've been part of protests were mothers and families of the victims have taken the stage to demand that the government fucking does something about this. Women are getting killed by the thousands and not a single perpetrator has been caught. So forgive me if I don't see anything to "lol" about in this thread or this story and find those who joke about it without knowing what that reality is like to be incredibly unsensitive people, to say the least.
