I'll cut right to it. Whenever I go back on my comments on old posts they've been rated down. Whether its on news or just an episode I've watched.

I'm not quite sure what the aim was behind being able to rate comments down on CR were but I really think it's a terrible idea. People abuse it and rate comments down for no reason. I don't go about commenting on everything on CR but with the system being abused I feel reluctant to comment sometimes.

I would much rather like Facebook the idea of responding to comments where you can only like a comment, reply to them or report it. But when it comes to report comments the user reporting must choose from given options for why they are reporting the comment.

Hope theres others who feel the same.

Don't mind it, it's not like as if you're going to build a reputation off of Crunchyroll.
I'm aware that there are some people who do this, same as on Youtube, to rate everybody's comments down so that they have a better chance of getting their comment a lot of likes in the "top comment" and etc.

Basically, you're just getting rated down by a bunch of kids who believe that they have a big internet ego.

(This is just my opinion, nothing to do with how/why CR implemented the system they have)

I'd compare it to a system like Disqus - they use up and down votes, along with reply comments, just like here. It seems to work fairly well - of course the numbers mean nothing in the long run in any system. Don't fear a downvote!

Here, comments that are down too much are hidden here with an option to show, at least. I don't mind that, to be honest. It usually means if someone is trolling, they'll get down-voted to the point of being hidden before a mod can even see it, no matter how quickly we check reports.

If you get a few down-votes, that might mean you have an unpopular opinion, but that isn't a bad thing! And your post should still be visible unless you get a bunch of them.

I think you both hit the nail on the head. Maybe I'm just fearing down votes and the people with high egos.

Thanks

I'm going to bring this one back up. I don't fear downvotes but I do find that they are almost never used the right way and generally add nothing to the site.

They really should just be eliminated, or made unanonymous to prevent lowlifes from downvoting a bunch of comments for no reason other than to be trolls.

I'll say that the upvote and downvote system doesn't contribute to a discussion and actually makes it more difficult for those who have differing opinions from the majority on the subject.
