I study Yang Style Taiji quan ( or Tai chi, as it is known by in America), going on two years, and Taiji jian (tai chi sword), going on 9 months. Why do I study? Because I feel a deep seated inner compulsion to in simple terms, but I suppose another way of putting it is; that there is something intrinsically linked to my being, that can only find its expression through martial arts. That sounds odd, but I am curious to see if anyone else has a similiar experience in their practice.
Anyway, my general question is, what style do you study, and why? Also, if you have any interesting observations or experiences from your studies in martial arts feel free to share.
An observation I've had about Taiji quan, is that only in the west is it treated solely as a form of exercise by and large (Luckily this is not the case under my Master). But whenever a Chinese Master is interviewed, they almost immediately begin to mention actual applications and treat it just like any other martial art.

I used to study Aikido years ago for a while before I dropped it. Can't even remember why I stopped going as I enjoyed it. In my experience it helped with keeping fit and increasing my tolerance for things such as annoying people or stressful situations.

Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, Judo, TaeKwonDo (when I was very little), boxing, and trying to do a bit of Hapkido now. I also want to do Sambo if I ever have time and fulfill all my practices in my individual arts.

Used to fight competitively in high school, now I'm on the Army MMA team.
