space exploration is never a waist. humanity needs to broaden it's horizons and reach out to the stars.

Space Bros - Ep 13 talks about this very thing. The link starts at the point in the video where they're dealing with this very issue, but really the whole ep (and series) are worth watching, in my opinion.

Of course, considering what a tiny fraction of the national budget NASA is, and the tremendous good it has shown over the years, I think it's well worth continuing.

NASA is one of the handful of things that deserves funding. If it wasn't for them our space technology wouldn't be as far as it is today, I firmly believe our space technology is behind enough as it is. While the earth is in no immediate danger if it ever became so it would mean the end of the human race.

It is always a possibility, If a asteroid the size of what impacted Jupiter hit the earth it would be over for all of us.

NASA and all scientific organizations should have a much larger budget than they are given by the US government. There are plenty of inventions that were "accidentally" found by NASA employees in order to come up with things that would last in space.

Absolutely not. Space exploration and scientific research is vital to humanity.

^Pretty good video. Another video this guy is featured in points out that Republicans typically give NASA(and other sciences) more funding that Democrats. Our current "hope & change" President blew off a group of veteran Astronauts who asked him not to cut the manned space programs.

Which is funny since the Republicans now want to reduce NASA funds as much as possible, while the Democrats want to boost NASA funds.

PS - Both parties want to reduce manned flights for now. Manned flights do not make sense for deep space exploration or going to mars at this point in time.

Well no one has ever spend a penny in space, all the money stays here on earth.

NASA pushes the technology edge due to the cost of reaching orbit and the research results are available for pretty much free. Even their life science research is trying to find a way to live in the extremely hash environment of space. And it is not just the vacuum and radiation that is deadly but even micro-g is hazardous to life. Constant gravity is built into the design of our bodies and its absence can wreck havoc.

I am bias about this, I wanted to live in space for a long time, hence my location as L5.

Will we ever leave this safe world? Who knows? But if we don't, well check out how many near misses by asteroids there are. It only takes one.

The Republican version is in response to the across-the-board sequestration cuts that the President imposed. Seems the Democrat version is only there for political purposes since it's not likely to go far.

I think that its good to try and find what else is out there in space
there might even be another planet with life forms on it
you never know whats out there until you explore
