That's nothing new since Akira.

I was just going to say, we all should have known it was coming. Akira got it right.

Welp, even if I may go to Japan that year I will not go near Tokyo or its surrounding cities.
Transit will be hell and prices for accomodation will be nigh unaffordable, if you can even get some.

I don't believe that Fukushima will be cleaned up by then and that Tokyo may be too contaminated by 2020.

The Olympics bring a hell of a lot of infrastructure and money to the local economy, which is fantastic given how shitty Japan is doing economically.

Problem is, Tokyo doesn't need it and it's going to cause some serious issues getting it ready. What they should have done was bid for a smaller city, outside Japan's major urban centres. Chiba, Saitama, and Kobe would all be excellent places to host the Olympics.

I think it's very short-sighted and won't do much for Japan long term.

Fukushima is an ongoing problem, but it's about 600km away and there are several mountain ranges in between. The biggest contamination problem for Tokyo is Cesium, which has a very short half-life.

Radiation for the Tokyo Olympics isn't an issue.
