Chapter had a few symbolic elements I thought. First the shots from behind the bars, which I took to mean these people are all trapped in this drama. Also the toddler walking toy getting tossed in the trash and a more mature hairstyle which I took as Shoko deciding to grow up.

I'm confused as to Ueno was referring to when she mentioned "that woman." There may be a Ueno backstory chapter incoming.

Also, was Shoko wearing a brace of some sort? It looked like one of her arms might have been injured, possibly dislocated?

As usual Yuzuru remains my favorite character in this manga. What a great character! Strong and determined, frail and flailing for help. I can't wait to see her animated!

I didn't notice Shoko's sling until the 2nd time through. Then I had to go back again and look to see if I could spot it. You can barely see it in the beat-down scene, but it isn't really obvious until the end. It stands to reason that her shoulder would be dislocated, since he pretty much caught her by the wrist and yanked her back up by that arm alone. My real question was why Yuzu said that her sister was still having trouble walking. It made me wonder if she hadn't fallen as well, but fared better because she was going feet first and not either head first or tumbling end-over end.

I'd love to see them get together; but I feel like that would have to be an "end of the manga" thing. I don't think Ishida is capable of loving Shouko at the moment. He's got her propped up as a kind of ideal. She's something like redemption to him. He keeps her around and does everything he can for her to try and make up for the past, but he's not really seeing her as a person. He would need to let all that go before they could be a couple.

Hopefully, this incident has started to open his eyes and put him down that path...

I have to think that A ) she should have seriously fallen off of that pedestal when he had to save her life when she tried to end it and B ) even if he doesn't acknowledge it, any debt that he owed her was just paid, in full, with interest, and the late payment fee was covered. The question is whether Shoya will recognize this and start thinking of her as more of a real girl. (I totally agree with your "putting her on a pedestal" thing, btw...)

I think it could very well be the end of the manga, but that is coming sooner than any of us would like. Especially since the chances of it being animated go down tremendously once the manga is complete. Since I heard that the fifth volume is just about to be published, and it is going 6 volumes, the story is almost over

Right before he falls, when he prays for the strength to save her, he says that he is going to stop running away and stop using her as an excuse. He also seems to acknowledge his feelings for her, but it is cut off by his hitting the water. What I took from that is that he wants to stop living in the past and look forward. He's wanted to protect her because of what he did before. Along the way I think he fell in love with who she is now and he wants to love, not just protect her now.

Well we got a story element to last the rest of the volume. Would be nice for some Golden Time esque closure.

Honestly, I'm really impressed with the way chapter 46 turned out. Yeah, it feels like it's coming up on the end; but the direction the story took is making me smile and nod my head.

As much as I want to get to the heart of the story, I also wish there had been more side stories. Ishida's mom looks like she'd have an interesting history. The time skip for Ueno and Sahara is also full of story potential. I'm not sure why this manga is rushing so hard towards a conclusion.

tl;dr: MOAR!

I have mixed feelings about chapter 46. At first blush, it seemed like not much happened, which is odd for this manga, but reflecting on it, we got a better glimpse into Shoko's head. However, it isn't any great revelation. I think we all knew that is how she felt.

I kind of like the direction it is headed, but I really want to see Shoko and Shoya together again. I want to see their first meeting after the incident, even if Shoya is still unconscious. And now we have to wait another week for more... GRRRR!

Oh, BTW... If the number of chapters per volume stays the same as it was for volume 2, which had chapters 6-14, then volume 3 was 15-23, volume 4 24-32, volume 5 33-41, and volume 6 will be 42-50. That would suggest that it will end in four more chapters. It seems to be a common thing to announce the end of a manga when there are three chapters left, so maybe chapter 47 will tell us?
