Great news. I've already seen Akagi, but this is an awesome addition to the catalog. If you've enjoyed shows like Kaiji, Saki, or Chihayafuru, you might enjoy this. A word of warning though: this show is a LOT more intense than those last two. It's more similar to Kaiji of course, being from the same author, but does share some things in common with Saki and Chihayafuru. It's about a game, Mahjong...that's why I say it's similar to those two. Anyways, be prepared for a wild ride filled with death defying bets and some of the most intense mental feats performed by Akagi. He's a true madman and risks his own life multiple times playing Mahjong.

In what universe is it even remotely similar to Chihayafuru? Saki I could somewhat understand, both of them being about mahjong and all. But the other one... they are both sports series? That's about it.

I was just trying to give some kind of recommendation aside from another Mahjong show and a show from the same author. What other shows do you think would bring people to watch Akagi?

Couldn't really bear watching it past episode 2 due to them praising his unsportsman-like behaviour, so not in the position to give recommendations. Chihayafuru, though, is decisively not it... One Outs. Initial D. Hajime no Ippo. Prince of Tennis? Those would be most similar to the "feel" of the show, though, none of these are on Crunchyroll.

oh god yes! i was just talking about this a week ago, saying "Man i really want to watch Akagi again". Because the family just got into Mahjong and i wanted them to enjoy the wonders of this anime.

Wouldn't that scare them off? ;p

YEY!!!
Still... I know that nowadays every anime simply needs swimsuit episode in middle, but doing it for whole season? It's like constant fan service... Well maybe i should give Free! another go...

BTW I misread the title :"Akagi, and Expanded Territories for Free! " and thought that you give "Expanded Territories" for free, whatever it would be. I even searched for "Expanded Territories" anime on net

Good timing; I'm just finishing up Saki Episode of Side A, so it'll be easier to sorta understand the mahjongg mechanics if I watch Akagi right away.

hmm.. I usually would pass up anime that looks like this Akagi... but the comments all seem to say it's good. Maybe I'll give it a chance.
