i've been a premium member with CR for over a year now and never had streaming issues, but now it's a persistent, unconditional problem for me...

anyone else experiencing the same issues with stuttering videos and extended pauses?

You posted in the wrong area. There is a help section in the forums.

With that being said, every here and there my video player does not play. Normally what I do is I open a few tabs of other episodes of anime and when once plays I know if i refresh my current page, it'll work.

Yes, many of us are. No word from Crunchyroll as to whether it is on their end or ours, but you're not alone. No consensus on a universal way to fix the problem either, but here are some question & answers that came up in other playback threads:

As of now, these are some options, potential solutions, and questions that have come up in other similar threads:

Contact Crunchyroll support directly.
-- Contact page: http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=contact
-- Community staff: http://www.crunchyroll.com/staff
-- Common Problems and Solutions: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-784141/common-problems-and-solutions
-- Video Help Guide: http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=video

Check your Internet/WiFi speeds.
-- TestMy.net: http://testmy.net/ (non-Flash based bandwidth test)
-- SpeedTest.net: http://www.speedtest.net/index.php (Flash based bandwidth test)
-- PingTest.net: http://www.pingtest.net/ (Flash/Java based ping test)

If using a shared connection, make sure your WiFi equipment can handle streaming 720P & 1080P.
-- Streaming through a router? How many devices are connected to your home network?
-- How old is your WiFi card?
-- How old is your router? Does it have dual capabilities (2.4G and 5G)?
-- Do you have playback problems when streaming 480P or SD?

How long have you had playback issues?
-- Did the freezing only recently begin? Or has it been going on for a couple months? Couple of weeks?
-- Have you always had problems streaming anime from Crunchyroll?
-- Is your playback problem worse at any time during the day (i.e., kinda bad at 8 PM, worse at 5 PM, great at 3 AM)?

Crunchyroll servers are overloaded at certain times of the day.
-- It has been noted by many people that one way to prevent streaming issues is the watch the shows on "off hours". In other words, try not to watch anime/drama at peak times.

Peak times to avoid streaming might include (but are not limited to):
-- When the video is first released (as in the case of Attack On Titan).
-- Early evening either Eastern Standard Time or Pacific Standard Time

Try multiple web browsers.
-- Check stream playback in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari (Mac).

Check other legal streaming services to see if you have play back problems.
-- Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/tv/genres/anime (Streams at 480P. Need to disable AdBlock plug-ins)
-- Do your subscribe to other streaming services such as NetFlix or Funimation? Any problems?

If all else fails, and Crunchyroll Support doesn't have a solution for your problem, temporarily cancel your membership and try a different service until the problem has been fixed. Then renew your CR membership.

Other services:

-- Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/
-- Funimation: http://www.funimation.com/
-- NetFlix: http://www.netflix.com/
-- The Anime Network: http://www.theanimenetwork.com/Watch-Online

Your Internet Service Provided is implementing something called traffic shaping. Basically they are doing the same thing they did to Netflix where they throttle the connection of the stream until crunchy-roll forks up the cash for all the bandwidth its pulling.

I've had this issue for years over 3 different providers. If this is the issue Title II will clear it up, but after broadband goes TitleII there needs to be improvement. This is unacceptable for a premium service.

been having problems with playback for over 2 weeks now. Guess they just don't consider this to be a big enough problem to fix.

I have been a premium member since 2012 and have had this issue, where it either won't play at all or will act like its buffering all the time. I'm on 50mb speeds and can't get it to run in 720 hardly. I don't think they care honestly.

The nominal line speed is only one of the many factors affecting internet streaming. Routing, ISP network quality, throttling, local network settings or even weak processing power on the user's end actually cause the majority of the issues.

Funny how you suggest that it could be the users side when this is an on going issue with Crunchyroll's website and has been an on going issue for a while now. Does the thread with over 1 million views about this issue not ring a bell at all...? I STILL encounter these problems even though I'm on a 16 GB RAM, 3.8 ghz i7 quad core CPU and GTX 780Ti graphics card PC with 120 down and 12 up ISP. I have contacted my ISP about the issue, they report everything is fine on my end, have asked if they are throttling my connection at all, they report that they aren't. Have tried ALL of CR's basic troubleshooting for changing around the network setting. You guys need to stop pretending that this isn't an issue when it clearly is. It is not the user's side. It's CR not wanting to bother using their investments into upgrading their shitty ass servers and shitty ass video player. Funny how every other streaming website works perfectly fine and CR doesn't...? Yeah okay bucko. I'm sorry, this sort of shit pisses me off when hundreds of users have reported this issue and someone like you try to suggest that the latter is the majority...

Peering between the players involved (ISPs, backbone providers, CDN providers) plays a big role in the quality of service for the end customers. There are power games being fought out over peering priorities between those players constantly, even today. Your ISP in particular was involved in various conflicts over peering with CDN/backbone providers since the advent of video streaming services.

While I can obviously not be sure what the root of your personal issue is, I can tell from my experience from helping users in the official support channels over in Germany that it is more often an issue with a particular ISP or type of connection, rather than a capacity issue on behalf of our CDN provider. Users who knowingly (or unknowingly) use proxy services when accessing our website suffer from similar issues because they get their video served from across the Atlantic, at much diminished line capacity due to the distance involved.

Today is better / but stiil hangs up now and then ! I actually waited 5 minutes then it started again!

One thing I went to SD !

Another trick open the pop -out player / if it works fine / if not close it / and usually the video plays!

If all fails log out / if you can/ clean your browser / I mean check off your entire history /downloads / paswords / etc check all the boxes ! / Wait like 5 minutes and it usually helps!

All you should update your browser/ flash player etc!
