Here's a little study I did on the components of anime eyes, from Haruhi to Mio to "Potato Girl"
http://anime-eye.tumblr.com/

I've included the original artist's name so you can easily compare styles across subjects. Take, Yukiko Horiguchi, for example. See the common elements?

And here's Mio-chan by two different artists:

Have any favorite anime eyes or eye artists?

You really seem to like eyes.

Even your avatar is an eye.

Eyes are one of the most important features when drawing anime. It gives life and the subtle differences in how they're shaded, shaped, and glisten makes or breaks a character, in my opinion.

I'm particularly partial the eyes of the anime version of Love Live! School Idol Project... they are just.. great.

Oh wow this is so cool. I hope you do more of these because eyes is always a hard thing for me. I draw more realistic and so drawing anime/stylized is hard. Eyes are the hardest of all and they always end up looking weird or too blank. I think I haven't been adding enough parts to it. These eyes are a lot more complex than I thought originally.

The eyes in Sword Art Online and Is the Order a Rabbit come to mind. I like the glowing effect. In SAO I like the in ring highlight too. Sorry don't know the artist's involved.

Found some nice eye references on DA...

Guys, it's nice to study eyes and all the different styles of eyes but none of this matters if you don't learn to draw first.

You can be the best at drawing eyes, but if you can't put them on a properly proportioned head and put that head on a properly proportioned and naturally posed body, then what's the point of learning eyes?

Learn the basics of drawing!

I really love the eyes in danganronpa, nice and simple:

fun to draw too, might use eyes similar on an upcoming VN project I'm doing...

Haha! Somehow I hadn't actually noticed that before you said!

Thanks for that, actually

Also, I agree with the eyes in Is The Order A Rabbit looking really good too... The ring highlight in SAO and (more obviously) in danganronpa seems like a nice simple way to add some definition though...

I think she knows how to draw or else she would not have brought it up dawg. You should have just left that alone and let her focus on that one part without assuming she can not draw.

Lol, and that picture with the contacts is awesome. Explains everything
