Guys, it's nice to study eyes and all the different styles of eyes but none of this matters if you don't learn to draw first.

You can be the best at drawing eyes, but if you can't put them on a properly proportioned head and put that head on a properly proportioned and naturally posed body, then what's the point of learning eyes?

Learn the basics of drawing!
I think she knows how to draw or else she would not have brought it up dawg. You should have just left that alone and let her focus on that one part without assuming she can not draw.

Lol, and that picture with the contacts is awesome. Explains everything

No, I agree completely with him. He isn't making the assumption that they can't draw, he's just pointing out how absolutely important it is to understand the fundamental aspects of both human anatomy and drawing before you start to look for inspiration from other anime/ manga's eye drawing style. I see too many people who can pull of drawing in their fave anime styles, but because of a lack of understanding of those specific components of art and anatomy, always end up with characters that look odd, disproportionate, or even warped. I always tell people to focus on drawing from life because style is something that generally comes after you understand the basics. You're not going to get anywhere with art if all you can draw is a page full of floating eyes. The same can be said for any other part that you're focusing (or leaning on) too hard... e.g.: character busts, standing emotionless characters.... etc. It's hard to get out once you start. P.S., try not to get butt-hurt so easily, this is the interwebs amigo.

I try to be varied myself, but I think I definitely have a few eye styles that I stick to. I'd like to think atleast though, that although I like them, that I'm not limited by them.

As opposed to a few years beforehand when I too drew pages of floating eyes.
