Hey everyone!

I just went through the lists of simulcasts today and played whatever looked interesting. All of them were only at the first episode. Below are my basic impressions on each, with a few (innocent) spinoffs on how it has affected me based on dreams and personal taste. And yes this was all done on my day off, I can be a shut-in for one day out of the week if I want to!

Disclaimer: Of course this is all just my opinion based on my personal preferences of anime, so you may agree or disagree with what I have said here. I may have been incorrect about a few references and facts, so please let me know and I will correct them! And watch out for the typos!

Here's what I got :)

Nagi no Asukara- Both the art style and the tone reminded me a lot of H2O or Clannad (if I remember them correctly, if not my bad ). Clean, bright, vivid artwork and the innocent and blissful tone. This honestly should've been a summer anime! The plot seems interesting enough (we'll see about character development), but the idea of humanoids living underwater is pretty awesome.

Outbreak Company (Moeru Shinryakusha)- Another user gave it a name I have to agree with: Wish Fulfillment: The Anime. I forsee massive fan service in this one, but once again I love the setting and the over the top fantasy always draws me in. Also, what piqued my interest is the main character's new job, which might be the best job in the universe if I might add. When I graduate college in two years, I'm actually looking for a similar job, only more realistic. I really like the idea of spreading (not forcing though!) my own culture in foreign lands, or vice versa (spreading foreign culture here). Something as simple as opening an American restaurant (I'm not really patriotic, but I'm sure a lot of Japanese are interested in American culture, so it could be a mutual learning process!) in a trendy area in Japan, to something more complex and business savy. I have a few ideas! So now it's almost like I'm watching this anime for tips! (probably not a good idea....)

Beyond the Boundary (Kyōkai no Kanata)- I think what I loved here the most is the witty diaglogue between the main characters (if you would call the other two girls main characters, considering that the focus seems to be on the guy, who is also narrating). Definitely feels like a fall anime for some reason, don't know why. I was originally going to skip it thinking it was another anime based off of spirits and yōkai in Japanese culture, but I gave it a chance and I was wrong to assume! I can't wait to see where it goes, and how the characters develop. Also, I'm already *kind of* shipping two of the characters, so if an anime takes one episode to get me emotionally invested then either it's doing something right or I have bad taste!

Off topic a sec, this is just me but unfortunately the yōkai/Japanese spirits is a genre I don't really find enjoyable, with the only exceptions being Spiritied Away (because c'mon it's Miyazaki!) and the Monogatari Series (because it is a contemporary, artisitc and beautiful take on old legeds). I find all aspects of Japanese culture interesting, even the supernatural, but I think my lack of enjoyment comes from the fact that most of the anime in this genre feel so traditional, taking place or based off of medieval Japan or older time periods, which is really the only type of anime I can't watch. It's fun to learn about history and culture, but I dont find it enjoyable in anime. I do love (modern) supernatural anime, so I think the disctinction lies with the time period it is based in.

Log Horizon- I loved it. Can you guess why?
http://www.wallsave.com/wallpapers/1920x1200/sao/388439/sao-players-388439.jpg

That's what it reminded me of. Specifically that image, since Elder Tale (the game they're trapped in) looks like a more squad based MMO, and the anime seems to focus on the group of players. It reminded me of that wallpaper specifically for some reason. I don't feel like it's an SAO ripoff. Rather, it's a much needed addition to this "new genre." And this is coming from someone who has SAO in his top 5 anime of all time (my top 5 isn't ranked, they're simply my 5 most favorite anime of all time, they're all equal since I'm indecisive :P) The anime itself was solid too. Probably too early to tell if it'll just get shunned as a SAO ripoff with people making unfair accusations based on personal bias (SAO is better because...), but it's also too early to tell if it'll actually be good. Nothing in particular stood out to me, but it's definitely got me interested, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel- The animation style was weird (looked like 3D animation), something I'm not used to but don't particularly care for. But that's just my opinion, different doesn't always mean weird. The plot was just OK, not too appealing to me but not boring either. This is the only anime I watched today that I am on the fence about continuing.

Strike the Blood- I must say, watching all the Monogatari seasons lately has me very interested in any kyūketsuki (vampire) anime that comes along. So this was a real treat for me. Nothing cooler than a laidback dude with an enormous amount of power (hiddden or otherwise). Nothing has really happened yet, but I can already tell I am going to like this anime. Solid anime so far!

Golden Time- Another anime that reminds me of my current life. Going away to university on the other side of the country, starting over. Not the amnesia part though (although I was confused about that since it was brought up in the series description but only hinted at the end of the episode). It's funny and relatable, and I like the characters well enough!

White Album 2- I didn't watch the original White Album, but from what I can tell it only loosely relates to the second season (White Album occuring 10 years prior to White Album 2, all the characters are different, and the main character in White Album 2 mentioning the previous main character). I could be wrong though. I have to say I am a sucker for cute anime. In this case, I don't mean cute as in KAWAII~ (don't get me wrong I like that cute too), but the kind of cute I'm talking about are those heartfelt and emotionally powerful moments, which this episode does have a few. If you watch the ending of the first episode you'll understand what I mean. I think it has to do with the music tying into the emotions of the characters. The music, it's always the music! And the music is actually really good! (I mean they're just praticing but it all sounds so very original and well done!) I don't think it will be like K-ON! though. It was all bittersweet to me, because the tone of the episode was all happy when in reality the situation was not looking all to well for the main character. In fact the entire episode itself and future episodes (maybe the entire series?) are a flashback for both happy and sad moments to come, ending with what may be the saddest moment in the series. And this was revealed to us in the first episode, in a narrative foreshadowing scene in the first few minutes. I really like how they placed that in.

Yes I did spend some time writing these, I'm normally not much of a writer, I don't ever write reviews or impressions, but I needed a little creativity today.

Based on what I've written (if you've gotten this far, I apologize!) can you recommend anything else for me? By the way have you watched Toradora? Never got around to it but I heard it's good. I'm looking for a good slice of life anime with romance (not limited to but not excluding harem). The recent ones I have watched and enjoyed were Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, Say I Love You, Kimi ni Todoke, (part of) The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, Henneko, and maybe some more I can't think of.

And thanks of course, hope you enjoyed my impressions

If you like cute, not Kawaii, but touching & are enjoying Golden Time, I would definitely recommend giving Toradora! a shot.

So far, I'm liking Samurai Flamenco, Galilei Donna, and Log Horizon best, but I have to say, there are really a lot of good ones this season.

My watchlist so far:

Nagi no Asukara
Kill la Kill
Log Horizon
Golden Time
Non Non Biyori
Blazblue
Strike the Blood
Samurai Flamenco
Galilei Donna
Beyond the Boundary
Gingitsune

Dropped:

I couldn't become a hero, so I reluctantly decided to get a job

Considering:

Little Buster: Refrain (I played the VN, and am iffy on whether or not I think the anime will do it justice.)

The others didn't grab me with their synopses, but I'll probably go back mid-season and check out a couple of them if I've got the time, and maybe pick some up from there.

Haha, funny. I jumped the gun on Toradora! a few days ago and just finished it last night. The anime was excellent, definitely one of my favorite romcom anime of all time, but the ending left me feeling a little depressed, for obvious reasons. It was one of those bittersweet endings where you're supposed to be happy, but I didn't feel the closure I was expecting to get. They should've had one more episode after the last one of them together! Well, if there's anything I learned about this anime, it's that the journey itself is more important than the destination. I'm just so sad that it ended for good, and on that bittersweet note.

Okay off topic rant over :)

I just also started watching My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy (yes that's its name, is it me or are anime titles getting longer each year?) and I couldn't stop laughing... this is this season's mindless comedy winner.

Kuroko, definitely. None of the other new anime have captured my interests. I tried Strike the Blood and found it riddled with too many tropes for my taste.

So far I have only been really watching Anime for 3 seasons ( so just this year ) but this is the most I have had on my list at one time. Given it is only one episode in for most so I probably will drop quite a few (already have some).

Currently Watching:
Diamond no Ace
Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoko Naritai! (Wanna be the Strongest in the World!)
Gingitsune
Magi S2
Walkure Romanze
Yowamushi Pedal (Yowapeda)
Non Non Biyori
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Arpeggio of Blue Steel
Miss Monochrome
Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)
Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru (My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy)
Nagi no Asukara
Outbreak Company
Infinite Stratos S2
Golden Time
Galilei Donna
Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoko wo Ketsui Shimashita (I couldn't become a Hero, so I Reluctantly Decided to get a Job)
Strike the Blood
Log Horizon
Little Busters: Refrain
White Album 2

Anything I didn't list I either have not seen yet (on other sites that are not Crunchyroll or is a continued series I have yet to start [Kuroko's Basketball])
Or
I have already dropped because the first episode completely turned me off from it.

Of what I am currently watching, there is about 5 or 6 that are sitting on the fence mattering what will happen in the next couple of episodes as to whether I will drop or not.
