I'm an avid writer and it wasn't too long ago that I would always have ideas and it would flow easily from mind to paper. Right I'm in a 3 month long slump. I abandoned my novel and my short stories and even my fanfiction WIPs. I am desperate to get whatever spark I've lost back.
Anyone have anything that they do to get their motivation and inspiration back when it's really bad?

1. I think reading other peoples stuff really helps give you ideas. I'm not saying steal peoples ideas obviously but I think most of the time the problem isn't that you don't have any ideas, you just don't know how to connect them into a cohesive story, so seeing how other people progress thier stories can help.

2. Re-read what ever you've already written. It's always good to just step back sometimes and start from the beginning. Reassess what is happening in the story so far and why it's happening.

3. Just right random bull-shit :). Start where you left off and just start writing random stuff that fits the story but isn't really serious. I feel like the more time I spend just thinking about the plot the less creative I am. Most of my ideas come while I'm actual writing it.

That's all I got, hope it helps

Yeah for #2 I totally understand. The more I think about any creative thing the worse I am. I can only draw well when I'm not thinking about it. I think I find it very difficult to not be overly critical of my work as a writer. I need to stop judging my prose every five minutes and just get the ideas on to paper, or screen in my case.

I have writer's block for every writing assignment. I used to be so good at them, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Sometimes mental blocks just sort of happen when we least expect we. Ugh I need to figure out how to get out of it. Apparently new scenery can help. Going to new places or stargazing or something.

Usually whenever I get writer's block when thinking of a manga plot (don't know if this will help) is I think about a situations in which someone says "I'll never let you go away" or "I'll never go away" these usually get my creative juices going and I work from there.

just don't try to write if your having a slump, you'll only hinder your self, the less you work during a block, the better it is when you get an idea, it also helps to jot down any thing you may come up with during the block, it might not go any where for you, but it always helps to have it down.

Read. Or if it's an art block, look at loads of artwork. That's what I do.

Writers block is something we've come up with that makes us think we can't write. I've hit it multiple times and the only thing I've found is to keep writing. Who cares if it sucks just keep writing and then BOOM inspiration hits and takes flight and what seemed to suck seems pretty epic after that. So don't quit just keep writing.
