Okay were do I start because I'm not even sure who is in charge of giving moderators there power on Crunchyroll. I do think that the moderators do a good job the majority of the time but i've come across a few notable ones. For fear that this thread will be locked and that my account will get banned or something i'm re-frame from using any of there names. But there were 3 cases where i've asked for help from one of them and they were just horribly rude to me. and then i'll just see them running around the forums waving there power in peoples faces as they basically tell you to shut up about your thread and then lock it.
I know this will probable get locked the moment I post it because there is one moderator I keep seeing today who's job is apparently to go around and lock thread all day. But my question (So you moderators can't lock this saying I'm flaming or that this is a personal thread) but What do you (REGULAR USERS) think about The moderators on here? and have you had any experiences with any of them?
Also how do you even become a moderator? You have to be friends with one right? so basically It's just people and there friends running the forums right?? could you imagine if that's how the government worked.

I've had encounters of a couple being very smug. Not going to lie, just being honest. It was almost as if he/she looked down and on and thought I wouldn't be at their level. With thread locks, I was accounted for one mistake, but others were of weird reasons.

I haven't experienced any form of rude behaviour from moderators.
Moderators are not only people who know each other, but people who are believed to make a difference to crunchyroll / forum.

I've not had any issues with them thus far. All they've done, as far as I am concerned, was enforce the rules. Also, whether they're friends or not, they're doing their job and [again, from what I've seen] they're doing it WELL. That's what matters, imo.

For the last round of new moderators we applied to a posting in site news:

/forumtopic-806021/so-you-want-to-be-a-moderator

The customer support staff and existing mods made the selection. Many of us were not friends with a mod, though some of us had previously interacted with mods in the forums or through mod reports and such.

I was actually in the middle of an argument with some existing mods about some site stuff when the new mod application period came up - I was quite surprised that I was considered, much less welcomed. Didn't know any of them at the time other than by name on the site.

Overall, I think the mods do a great job here. I've been active for close to a year now, and I have yet to see a mod abuse their power here. They do their best to keep this place running as best as possible. Sometimes, a mod may rub a member the wrong way, but it generally isn't intentional.
My personal experiences with them have been fine; nothing really to complain about.

I've personally made tons of friends on here. I've had very few complaints against me and those who did were usually notable trouble makers. I'm not quite sure why you'd think we do this for "power". It's a website that we all love, and we simply help keep it clean of clutter. If threads get locked, it's usually for a reason, such as it being a duplicate or something.
No locks happen simply because we don't agree or anything.
In fact many of the people I've corrected about rules have later become friends with me.
Unlike MK, I knew many of the existing mods when I was added to the team, and I loved all of them. The team I work with here is fantastic.
What you might see is someone just locking, but there's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes. We each have our talents we bring to the table.
<3

Edit : Also I'd like to add, if you ever have a problem with ANY of us, please reach out to whoever you have an issue with in a civilized manner, we will listen and explain why we did something. OR perhaps we may offer you a chance to edit something to reopen it! :)
We're here to listen to you.
If you feel you want someone else, contact a different mod, or go to customer support =)

*wave*

I'm ultimately the person who gives the mods their power.

I'm Baker, head of the Customer Support Department and behind the scenes dabbler in the forums.

Lorreen mentioned the last post where we asked for people to apply to be moderators.
It was a couple month process with a ton of discussion.

Ultimately, I looked for people who were active in the community, would be available across multiple time zones, and had something to bring to the table.

It's a volunteer position. No time minimum or maximum. So they're here to help at their leisure.

Hopefully that helps answer some of your questions.

Best,
-B

I've honestly have never had beef with any of the moderators on here. Majority of them are actually pretty cool, everyone has their quirks, so both parties should be forgiving instead of pointing fingers if anything ever happened between users and mods. As Vash from Trigun would say...

A moderator is someone who bans you when you call female CR members on their stupidity. Then stalks your posts for a while and bans you a couple more times for.. things.. I'm not even sure are bannable offences.
