Windows 8 is factually better than Windows 7 performance wise, and you'd be silly to argue that it isn't, the only problem Windows 8 has is the interface, and even that isn't a big problem! There is no reason not to switch to Windows 8 at this point in time.

It depends entirely on what you use your computer for.

Gaming more than all-around? Windows 7. I've heard plenty of crap about 8 not working as well with games. And unless you're an FPS whore, the performance increase on the game side is negligible. You'd get better framerates upgrading your gpu at this point.

I know it sounds like a petty excuse to pick on the interface, but can you blame us? We've had the godsend that is Windows 7 for this many years and they decide to change shit again.

Don't fix what isn't broken. That's our issue with the interface. It worked fine before and the pointless touch add-on crap doesn't make it any better.

And with the issues that would arise from someone like me switching to 8, what will all the fuckery that would occur with my programs, you can understand why people might be hesitant to upgrade.

On an off-topic note, what is with all these buffoons bumping half-year old topics? Please tell me this isn't becoming a trend.

I don't understand what the hold up on the Windows 8.1 app is. I have been messing about making some Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 apps and they are designed so that you only need to make one app and then the same base code is usable for both the only difference being the formatting / sizing of the different versions.

its the massive change in interface that is teh hold up. a new learning curve instead of something you already know.

I have a crack for Windows 8.1, but knowing it'll wipe out all my installations and such, is egging me to just keep the file on my desktop... taunting me.

It will be another year or two before I upgrade (when I buy a new computer) so maybe 8.2 will be out by then. I don't like the changes of 8.0 but 8.1 seems to be a step in the right direction ...not enough to get me to switch as yet, but something.

Windows 10 is expected to be released sometime in 2015 and I personally don't like 8; 8.1 is slightly better but not much. My main computer is now 7 so unless I buy a computer with 8 pre-installed I'll just skip that release.

I actually like windows 8.1 because it is faster with almost everything (including boot time), but to make it useful on pc i had to install classic shell to get the start menu back. The start menu is a lot faster than looking though different screens for the same info/settings.

I don't really like 8, it seems laggier than 7. I just bought a referb 7 laptop that I intend to use for a few more years at least, I am hoping during that time that Win comes out with something better.

It's kind of how windows systems go though. Every other new OS, crap or meh.

Vista was crap, and it was preceded by XP which was for the times not bad. Crappy Vista was succeeded by 7, which is better than its successor Win 8 by a long shot.

Honestly, my main gripe with 8 is the new layout. While it to an extent makes some navigation easier, I for the life of me can't get used to it, which is why I hate using my desktop. My laptop's speed is far superior as well. Of course, the processor in the desktop is crap and my laptop's speed is good… but still…

Really, if they didn't drain finances, I would love a Mac; fewer viruses, faster processing. They're just so pricey, and that's including mere startup costs, totally barring all the software I would have to install for it (photoshop, MS office, video editing alternative to Sony Vegas, etc)
