How do people react when you admit how nerdy you are.

For real guys..
I'm a pretty fit guy, I'm not like Zyzz or Mr. Olympia, but I gym 6 times a week with morning PT 5 times a day. I'm 6"2 and 210lbs. I'm not a stereotypical nerd. That being said, one of my idols(also a close friend) and two of my good friends who are also in very good shape (closer to Zyzz) are huge anime fans.
Now, when I talk to people, I usually find common ground between us. I love talking and meeting new people, it's just a part of who I am. Lately, I've been trying to find more people who are interested in nerdy activities (I'm deployed in Bahrain with the army, so I get tired of seeing the same people day in/day out) and it's very hard to find people who are into the kind of stuff I like.
For example, I fucking love MTG (Magic: The Gathering) and only a handful of people in my battalion play and those that do, are modern players. (I'm only into standard/draft)
I also love D&D, I mean.. I love D&D. I love the fact that the game is only limited to your imagination, because I have a very vivid imagination, but I'm too lazy to do anything with it.
When I bring this up to people, they just look at me and ask me if I'm joking. Is it just me, or do people who workout seem to be stereotyped as brutes who don't enjoy anything outside of the gym?

Ohhh, my, I know what you mean. I don't work out as much as you do, but I'm an anime fan, computer programmer, live alone, and am an overall gamer. People often disbelieve my career or hobbies because I'm also somewhat fit. Not in super shape either, but in decent shape I think. And the folks at gyms I've gone to look down on "nerds" and "geeks", not realizing that people like me are among them....

I just feel that not enough people really understand how badass working out is and how badass nerdy shit it.
I love technology and I love a good pump.

First, nerds are the new wealthy. Look around. In this economy, the more geek you are the more likely you will succeed in business. Sure, there's room for non-nerds in the Information Age, but the new wealth that will spread for the next 100 years is nerd wealth.

Second, the older you become, the less important it is.

We're all equal in that pine box.

LOL @ peer pressure. Once you get out of school and start living in the real world most people really wouldn't give a fuck how people see them. Its not like they are the ones writing your check. The average adult has bigger fish to fry. That said I never paid close enough attention to people to gauge a reaction. Either I can talk anime or the latest Wolverine movie with you or I can't.

I don’t exactly care but something funny the other day this girl completely got weirded out when I started talking about anime or about how much I watch somebody else brought it up so.... you know you have to explain things and what shows are awesome . And when they say most shows are bad or they cant find any.

As a anime fan things just cant be left unsaid ( laugh ) and I'm being completely serious

Gym freaks are not only stereotyped as brutes but also as bullies and assholes here in MIA. They gained a little muscle, they go bat shit crazy on workout routines. They MMA-ized the place when other gym patrons are present. They do splits everywhere.

I find it strange that you guys have bad experiences with regular gym-goers.
I normally find some of the most down to earth people in the gym, even the gym rats are decent folk.
Aside from that, it's not like I care what people think about me. I'm not in high school, so popularity is none of my concern. I'm just appalled that people are still stuck in the mindset of stereotypes and stigmatisms.

I've never been influenced by peer pressure. I don't brag about being nerdy, I just show them and if they find it useful they'll try to use it, but it's only offered at a price.

lol, I just got the question. I don't go to the gym I use the pool, that's about it. I don't interact with anyone unless someone comes up to me. Generally, I'm not aware of many stereotypes because I don't have someone gossiping in my ears xD

I didn't know being a huge fan of anime is nerdy haha

Well I'm really quiet to begin with, and pretty shy as well so I guess they wouldn't be too surprissed.
But once I told my friends they just look at me weird and think I'm childish because I still watch "cartoons". I don't bother explaining to them that anime differs from cartoons.

One of them told me to grow up and start watching thos movies with 'hot guys' in it. Meh idrc I've never met anyone who loves anime as much as I do so I don't really talk about it. Even playing video games is considered childish as well apparently haha.
