How do people react when you admit how nerdy you are.

If you were offered 9 trillion dollars to switch the Navy, would you?

HAH! I'm in ADA(Air Defense Artillery).. I'd transfer over for free, man.

DAMN! ADA's awesome though, would you recommend it to some kid who didn't know what he was going to branch?

It sounds badass, truly it does! Unfortunately, I don't want to break OPSEC so I can't tell you much about it.
I work as a medic in this branch, I love it. It's a great job, with a different atmosphere from the rest of the army. Now, if you're looking for a great time, I've never met an airman who hated being in the Air Force. They're taken care of, fed well, housed well and they get just about everything they want. Sailors get to travel the world and see all sorts of cool places, man. Marines have their pride (not afraid of them, though) and army has a mixture of everything man.
I recommend going PJ for the AF or corpsman for the Navy.

I wanted to go to college so I could eventually be a lead designer for a video game, but certain things happened and I lost my scholarship and coming from poverty didn't help much, either. So that's on hold, but I'm thankful for it, I found out that my passion lies in mental health! If you do become a lead designer for a game by chance, I want a free copy!

I honestly would not change what I am doing even if offered that much money. I love marine animals too much to change from trying to become a marine biologist. Though I guess if I tell people that I am going to become a marine biologist that would automatically make them think that I am a nerd.

You're a better man than I am.
I personally hate violence and yet I joined the military, knowing I might have to fire my weapon at someone. (Thankfully I'm a medic in ADA so I don't do shit, WHOO!)

I wanted to design video games but I have no artistic talent, so I hope to help develop game consoles someday. It would be awesome to see the world, but I'm a first generation immigrant from humble beginnings. I would give my parents a heart attack if I chose a life of adventure as a sailor to a quiet one. Besides, the world is especially not safe for women. I'm 5'0 and look 16. I'd never make it in the world alone.

I don't know how exactly i come off on other people or what exactly they think I'm into when they first meet me but i believe that we "nerdy" people are like Batman-Superman. When people talk to me they make a persona based upon what they are used to. Once the ice is broken and a somewhat mutual bond is formed I tend to say I'm also into Anime/Manga and also a gamer they look at a me like if I said hey by the way I'm Batman. I usually get "really i don't see you as a nerd/geek" or whatever they title us Otaku's with.

Dibs on the console, then!
I hear yah, I wanna travel the world and backpack most of Europe but even as a fully grown BAMF, it's too risky.

I know that feel, mane. It's just one of those things that people have a hard time accepting and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

They don't really react in a certain way, luckily. I'm pretty fortunate in the fact that they still view me as a perfectly normal person who just has different interests.

People don't care. I could collect stamps and be into knitting and they would still say "Whatever."

Well, I'm strong enough to carry a two hundred pound man and a full O2 kit, up three flights of stairs, out a window, and down the ladder during our department training drills every six months.

I don't think many people are surprised that I'm a nerd though. Then again, who knows, I don't really talk to people outside of work all that much, and just about everyone I work with has as many fellowships as I do. Only time I can remember surprising anyone was a cop I had to give a statement to, when I corrected him about my title, but I was covered in sweat, ash and soot at the time... And I suppose I did get into a strange argument with a dentist once who in the middle of working on me looked at me and said: "You're not a real doctor." Which was really patronizing. I waited until he was done before I informed him that I had two doctorates and he gave me a look that was priceless.

BTW: I'm so oldschool about D&D, I have a hardcover copy of the RIFTS sourcebook autographed by Kevin Siembieda. So, I'm with you on that one.
