I take the stance of never say never when it comes to a large gap between seasons of anime. Look at how long the gap between the Hajime no Ippo seasons have been.

That being said, the rather weak sales of the series despite its quality probably means no more seasons.

Hajime no Ippo's manga is still ongoing(it is a very long running manga) while Spice & Wolf novels have concluded. So Kadokawa sees no reason to have any more anime since there aren't any new light novels in the series to promote.

As to Holo & Lawrence: BIG SPOILER

BIG SPOILER IMAGE, cover of volume 17:

from what i heard thats not how it ends

I was merely posting the picture though I do have all the Japanese novels... but I'm not spoiling here beyond the picture.

not saying this will be a success, but its but a small task to sign it and who knows? showing them how many people would want such a thing could never be considered a bad thing.

Sorry but Funimation can't do anything until the folks in Japan make an anime. Their influence only extends to bidding on the rights to stream and sell videos, dub them.

The novels were finished years ago, the discs sold well the first season 8.7K, good but not great the second season 5K and that told the production committee that the 3rd season would likely drop to break even or lower so they didn't make it. Sadly, this is just not going to happen.

Saying petitions don't work completely is abit silly. I'm not saying it's an auto-victory or something, ofcourse not. But it does show support/interest in a continuation. All they need is high numbers.

Take 50 seconds to sign it.

Pretty much. Basically how each new season is made is, unless it was decided upon when the series was being made that there would be multiple seasons, they have to pitch each season to investors as of it was a brand new show, and thus if it doesn't seem like a sound investment it won't be made. The decline in sales for S&W made it seem like a not sound investment.

Re-read your last sentence several times, and one reason should sink in why online petitions in such situations have little impact.

Someone is effectively saying, "I want to see this", not even "I want to buy this", much less pledging "I will buy this". Even if this were a pledge to buy, unless you were putting up a guarantee to import a Japanese edition with English subtitles, all one would be guaranteeing is that if a production committee in Japan made a third series, they would buy it if a company is the U.S. licensed it, from which the rights holder in Japan would only get a portion of the proceeds.

When you consider the price differential between a full set of discs for a series in Japan vs. the United States (or most western countries), and the fact that the rights holder only gets a small portion in Japan, the sale of a single disc in Japan would have more financial impact than the sale of an entire box set here. In contrast, a "signature" on an online petition would have an almost immeasurably small impact.

They will probably (NOT) make another season due to the large GAP...

Sort of like the show Angel Beats Which they ended , but they are trying to make a video game of the show which is supposed to reales sometime 2014, but the show was made in 2010...

So it is possible another company could pick up Spice and Wolf and re-make/ continue the show

Time gaps aren't the issue, the novel series being over for years is the issue. If they were to write a new Spice & Wolf novel series then they might make more anime.

And as far as rights are concerned, it is rare but not unprecedented for another company to pick up the rights. Infinite Stratos 2 is done by Overlap Bunko who bought the rights to Infinite Stratos from its original publisher. The author remains the same and continues to write more novels which is the difference. So if Hasekura wanted to switch publishers and restart Spice & Wolf it might happen but he is currently writing Magdala de Nemure (May Your Soul Rest in Magdala) at Dengeki Bunko so I doubt this will happen. It now has a manga adaptation and I'm sure they are hoping to do an anime version at some point if they can. Surely Hasekura and Dengki Bunko would much rather promote this new series than one that ended years ago.

Face it folks. It just isn't going to happen. I'd love to see it too but I never will...

While I would love to see the rest of the novels animated, even skipping the occasional novel, as they already did, I don't have high hopes. For one thing, there are 17 books, 14 main story and 3 short story collections (#7, #13, and #17). The end of season 2 finished at the end of book 5, skipping book 4. (Book 4 was a nice book, but it was perfectly able to be skipped in making the anime.) So, if they did all of the rest of the main story books at the pace of 2 books per season, that would be four seasons of anime.

Now, based on my reading of the books up to the most recent US publication, I think they could shorten the process. I think book 6 could be done in a two episode arc as an intro to "The Town of Strife", which is a two book set and could probably be done in 5 episodes if they worked at it. That would leave 5 episodes to do book 10, which only has 5 chapters. I don't know the content, but book 14 is only 4 chapters, so they might be able to do 12 and 14 in half a season, and books 15 and 16 are one story, so that may be doable as a single 6 episode arc as well. that would make 2 more seasons of anime, which is more reasonable than four, but still not gonna happen unless somebody in Japan makes it happen...

If you guys are really craving some spice and wolf pick up the light novels.

They are real easy to read and really cheap on amazon.

If you have seen both season 1 and 2 you can pick up on Volume 6 of the light novels.
