I feel that Attack on Titan's shortcomings are:

1) It is just too awesome for mere mortals to comprehend.
2) It is capable of inspiring both fanboys and fangirls.
3) It HAS shortcomings.
4) It's more interesting than NGE.

and, most importantly,

5) They make really flimsy sword blades.

Attack on Titan is good in many respects, but also bad in just as many respects too.

Good qualities:
- Shock Value
- Intensity
- Animation
- Music

Bad Qualities:
- Character progression
- Plot too reliant shock value to be effective without it
- Very repetitive & recycled dialogue
- Plot itself is very, how do I put this, dull without said SHOCK value

Overall, I feel AOT fall into the same slump that Guilty Crown has. The story is too reliant on it's characters & shock value to stand on its own. And even with the characters & shock value, the anime's both seem to have very generic/bad character development.

Mikasa is still googoo for Eren
Eren is still a baboon

And while Levi, Armin, and Jean all got pretty good development, it makes no difference since they're not as plot relevant as the two listed above. The rest of the importants are either dead or not developed as well.

Guilty Crown & AOT had so much potential, but because of the production adaptation & genre ( shounen for AOT ), they tend to make it more mind numbing than thought provoking. Thus leaving to be adored by its fanbase such as animes like Gurren Laggan, Naruto, and other big names. I enjoy all these animes I'm bashing on, but it doesn't mean I'm not aware that they're very very flawed & that they shouldn't be held in such high regard.

The shock value is legit the biggest part of AOT. That, mixed with the music, is what legitimately sends chills down my spine. Calling Your Name is one of the better OST's to go along with action scenes in a shounen.

Really the problem is the blades are segmented like the blades on a box cutter.

I don't think enough noise has been made for the soundtrack of AoT. Like the music when Eren picked up that boulder and (finally) sealed the gate? That was sick.

People are always just like, "Yeah, the soundtrack's pretty great," but without the music, half of those scenes wouldn't have had the same impact that they did.

There are two problems with this thread.

1. SAO was shit from episode one, not episode seventeen.
2. You have never seen Attack on Titan, and yet you harbor such hatred for it? Wut? Respect=0. I have never seen AOT, and was hoping to finally see someone make an argument against it. Guess I was wrong.

Seen it. Wasn't that impressed. There were parts that I liked, so maybe I should watch it again sometime.

if you hate the realistic art maybe you should watch One piece or pokemon it's aimed for a much younger age group.

Oh and i'm not gonna comment about you not watching a series and already despising just because it's that good...it's just too ridiculous.

These were my thoughts back when I first read it, Eren's mighty morphing Titan power really is Dues Ex machina, after i read it I'd hoped it would have been about Armin's journey to become a badass tactician or something with actual substance.

No
1. SAO was shit from episode 3/4 where it completely lost momentum but this fault is also present in AoT too, I would elaborate but I might have to spoil
2. Yes you have a point, it is ridiculous to criticize something you have not seen and to judge it solely based on a fan's reaction, but to be fair to him some people are going bat shit insane over this and over hype can lead to over expectations and having high expectations of something can lead to disappointment.

I've noticed a lot of your comments, just wondering about your reaction to this series being seinen instead of shounen. Are most of your favorite anime series seinen and not shounen? Not trying to start a fight or anything, simply curiosity.
