I would like gravatar support for our accounts, because it is so much easier changing your forum account picture for like 10 different websites all at one site!

And like most sites, the support wouldn't make it a requirement to have, just as an option.

Anyone else agree?

i don't like the idea of a computer program that follows me wherever i go.

(it's one of the reason why i don't have a Google account)

Heyhi! I've cleaned up the thread to keep it on track and moved it to site suggestions!
I personally think it might be interesting however I totally forgot my password for that site, so that would stink :O

Not to sound too hopeless, but I doubt Crunchyroll will ever start using a service meant for the free Blogsphere. It would be an odd move, and when you think about it most sites with a brand use their own avatar service.

Another argument against Gravatar, would be that it would be harder to for moderators to, well, moderate inappropriate avatars. When the avatars are hosted on CR, it's a simple matter for a moderator to take care of before any damage is done.

Actually in most forum software that I've seen with gravatar support, its quite easy to just block a user from using gravatar, if it is deemed abusive.

For instance, in Xenforo, If I, as a moderator or admin don't like someones profile picture because it is offensive, I can just reset their avatar to default and put a lock on that feature for that user.

Also all gravatars are rated on a scale from G to X/M

Sites can choose what the maximum gravatar rating that their site supports (say pg-13) and gravatar automatically will choose an appropiate avatar for the site according to the users set preferences.

On top of that, it goes against the gravatar terms to rate a porn image as G, so no worries there, they'll suspend that account before the image even shows up here on the site.

Personally, I think it would just be a conveince to the users that use the feature, and the rest can go about using the sites avatar system.

Globally Recognized Avatars. Basically, a universal "avatar" (image) of your choosing that you can use on thousands of different web-sites. What it does is save you from uploading a new avatar for every different forum or community you post on. The gravatar is linked to an email of your choosing, so you only need use the same email for all sites that support gravatars and your standard avatar image will show up.
