I can see Esdeath-chan innocently curling into a corner crying next chapter. Why is Tatsumi picking on her anyway?

That seems like the entire point of this manga to me. Let's toss a typical shonen hero into an insanely fucked up world and see what happens.

So you're saying this series could be a deconstruction of the shonen genre?

I came to that conclusion as well and it helped make me fall in love with the story even more. "How stupid or idiotic would a generic shonen character look in a world full of betrayal, death and not-so-obvious evil?"

I feel that instead of Mine surviving, she's gonna get killed by Esdese or Esdese will be framed for it somehow, Tatsumi goes batcrap crazy, snaps and kills Esdese, finds out she didn't actually kill Mine and was framed, Tatsumi goes into a Heroic BSOD, gets snapped out of it by Akame and then continues with new found fury and vengeance to brutally murder every politician in power at the capital.

If my scenario is wrong I'm okay with that, but this seems like a solid way to wrap up the series (not that I want it to end mind you). Esdese x Tatsumi is my ship but I could see Tatsumi x Akame happening IF it plays out like the scenario above.

How is tatsumI a generic boy? Hewen doesnt whine. He doesn't hesitate to kill and hes already kissed two girls. He plays a straight man but hes honestly not THAT stupid. He doesnt come weak and become op later. Hes been reliable without being some cocky op mc. You u guys have a weird opinion of generic!

I can see her going yandere, finding Mine, and killing her so she can have Tatsumi to herself

I agree with your idea of what is going to happen next besides for Tatsumi killing Esdeath, just don't see him getting to her level any time soon, even if he does go berserk.

That's exactly my point. In the beginning and sometimes even still he shows genuine naivety when speaking and acting, and it bites him in the ass. Slowly but surely his innocent, wishful thinking and "generic shonen" attitude have been warped by his life as an assassin. His first kill was out of anger and his second was out of "justice" and he never thought about the consequences until his allies started dying. He's become cruder, more harsh and much less forgiving than he ever was because he is becoming jaded by living in the horrible world that the manga takes place in.

To be far, he kinda does become OP after being initially weak in a few points of the manga after a training session (like other shonen series) but that normally gets shaded over because his enemies don't stay as weak as they were either. At the same time, he is forced to fight more and more powerful enemies as time goes on.

Now he's not an idiot, but he is extremely naive, like a lot of of shonen protagonists who would appear "stupid" when in fact they are fairly intelligent and cunning. His initial viewpoint of his world is too optimistic and hopeful for the environment he is in because he was sheltered his entire life in his village, only to be thrust into a hellish environment full of unseen evils, and that is what is slowly destroying his image of a "generic shonen protagonist"

Ehh he could always assassinate her after maybe having spending the night together in bed.

To be perfectly honest though I DONT want Esdeath to die, at all. I love her to death and really really don't want her killed because it'll crush me. If the scenario I wrote earlier plays out exactly like I said, I will be in tears both for her dying and Tatsumi after. I'm talking Clannad level pain.

Seriously, picture this: Esdeath is impaled by tatsumi, she gently puts her hand on his face, pulls her body closer to him, killing her in an incredibly slow and agonizing way, comes up to his ear and whispers "I tried to save her, but I failed. I wanted you to be happy... because... I loved... you..." and then dies.

^That would break me. It would be at least as bad if not worse than

But yes, in a one on one fight, if Esdeath came at Tatsumi with the intent to kill (I don't think she ever would but I dunno now), Tatsumi would lose.

I just think his naivety comes from being a country boy, the same way his two friends were. His attitude hasn't really changed that much since the beginning of the series.

What I see in common with shounen is that he's a boy, he received an armor upgrade, and he becomes stronger as the series progress.

You could argue that Guts from Berserk is shounen because of the same qualities though. He's a boy, he received an armor upgrade, and he becomes stronger as the series progress.

Now if you think Tatsumi started out as a generic character then I agree.

Actually, I agree with the both of you. That was my idea about this manga the entire time. It's basically avoiding many of the pitfalls of previous shonen mangas in each arc by changing things up, but still keeping a similar familiar core theme or set-up.

This is why I think that this manga has been so excellently genius up to this point on the whole.

Even as a long time follower of the manga I'm not completely sold on it being a deconstruction of the shounen genre. If it is then it is more specifically a deconstruction of "shounen fantasy action/adventure" sub-genre. Either way I still love it.

I'm thinking something like killing Mine brutally and torturing her in front of Tatsumi or something.

Honestly I doubt she would torture and kill Mine in front of Tatsumi, would she kill Mine though? Maybe, if it came to a fight between the two then yeah Mine might die, but Esdeath wouldn't go full on Yandere about it either. It's at the point where I can't tell if Esdeath loves him to the point where she would just want Tatsumi to be happy or if she's gonna go the "If I can't have you no one can" route, I mean she literally had her heart shattered this latest chapter with that reveal. I'm hoping for the former followed by some tragic misunderstanding but all I can really say is that we gotta wait for the next chapter or two and see how it goes.
