Not really a complaint but from an MMO player's point of view I kind of find it silly how a bunch of lvl90 characters are having trouble against mobs that are more than 60 levels lower than them. Unaccustomed to new controls? lol if I logged out my capped char on a nub spot with aggro monsters and login back and for some reason my hotkey setup were all reset I can prolly setup my hotkeys while tanking nub mobs.

I mean sure this isn't the MMO I'm playing but c'mon I've played a lot of different MMOs and I cannot name any MMO where people will have problems against mobs that are waaaaaay low level. Kinda makes me think the author has never played an MMO before.

ugh i think it would be alot different lol moving form a mouse/keyboard to having all those icons and status bars right in ur face and having to swing your arms around in a first person view as opposed to being able to see everything organized and laid out and being able to view everyone and everything from multiple angles

also you never know how the game was ive played mmos where you can be that high over and still not one shot mobs while they can still kill you

I enjoyed it, thought it be similar like SAO which it kinda is but I enjoyed it of what it was an eager to see what's in episode 2. Fingers crossed I will like the series.

Like I said in my post... even if you take into account they are not accustomed to the controls, players should have no problem tanking mobs that are over 60 levels lowers than them.

Well I've played a lot of MMOs and have never played a game where I can even fathom dying to mobs more than 60 levels lower than me unless I go through the extra effort of dying... you know like removing all my armors and mob training the whole map.

I kind of assumed that the monsters had all been powered up in the update. Or that the update made levels less meaningful.

I'd say the author probably overlooked this and don't get me wrong here... like I said this isn't really a complaint but as someone who has played a lot of different MMOs that part was kind of funny.

3 lvl90s against 8 lvl27 mobs! Who will win?! dun dun dun!!!

They were trying to figure out how the game worked. Also he was getting screwed up by that vine thing.

Trying to figure out how the new game mechanics is just fine but the thing is they were having a hard time. Of course we might get an explanation later that they weren't being pressured at all but with how they presented it, it was like some super hard mob.

Again... 3 lvl90s against 8 lvl27 mobs? Who will win!? Anyone with a lot of experience in MMO gaming would easily answer the 3 lvl90s because the idea of players having difficulty against grossly underleveled mobs is just too silly.

I really hope this thread doesn't turn into the flamefest that was all the others.. or worse.. people injecting manga/novel spoilers..

As for the episode itself I like that so far it doesn't take itself too seriously and so far has enough comedy and action to keep the story going. So far so good I'm really enjoying this

That depends on who wants to instigate a flame war.

Also no chihaya yet.

Umm… I have yet to watch the first episode.

Reaaaaaaally GOOOOO watch it now!

Honestly though there's enough difference here to keep it from another SAO vs. .hack. It has a different feel, the humor is different and the circumstances are different. I don't mind so much the level differential.. it is far different going from keyboard to interface.. heck.. it's like being told "now.. play this game ONLY with Kinnect".. I'd freak out too!

After watching the first episode, I have one big problem with the plot. This kind of annoyed me in SAO too, but here it just makes no sense.

Why the HELL is it necessary for them to stress so much that Shiroe is an unsociable loner? They stress that he is, but he isn't AT ALL.
Is it to keep in line with all the other MMO animes?

.hack//sign - Tsukasa - avoided people,
--Tsukasa had a reason, she obviously had some family issues, and now she was stuck in an mmo with a lot of her memories altered. Morgana even kept reinforcing the notion to her that she shouldn't be talking to other people.

.hack//roots - Haseo - total douchebag.
-- I will also accept the loner personality on Haseo. Why? Because it wasn't used to make Haseo seem cool, it was actually used to make him seem unstable. In case people never saw roots or never played G.U., Haseo is pretty much a total douchebag until vol. 2 of G.U.. He may be a likable character in that he is decently written, but he is a very unsociable person who is pissed off 90% of the time. I actually like Haseo's character for this same reason; because people almost NEVER write a main character who has the personality you would expect of a minor villain. Haseo and Light from Deathnote are the only two I can think of.

SAO - Kirito - Natural Loner.
--I could accept Kirito being a loner, if they stuck with it. He obviously was written at first as a geek who spent all his time playing video games and had no friends. That is just a naturally unsociable person despite any family problems. That was fine, however the fact that he was able to make friends with Klein so quickly makes me wonder why they kept with that plot. For example, I am generally a solo-player in MMO's, but I have a concrete reason for it, I do not like I would say at least 90% of the people who play MMO's. Kirito on the other hand seems to easily establish healthy relationships with other people : Klein, Agil, Yui, his harem, people he helps out. However Kirito did accidentally get a whole guild killed, well actually they just died of their own stupidity, either way it is a decent reason to feel like you want to stay away from people.

Log Horizon - Shiroe - Pointless Loner
-- Now finally, Log Horizon. Shiroe has a huge ass friends list. The first thing he does is contact Naotsugu. He knows things about Naotsugu in real life. He has close ties to a bunch of people in that crescent moon guild. He frequently parties with Akatsuki. Shiroe is friggin sociable as hell. He has friends all over the place and he is nice to them. Yet, for some reason the anime stresses that he is a loner. It makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

trust me, it's not all that unrealistic. I was pretty much exactly like that through 6 years of FFXI. I'm that way in real life. being sociable and being a loner don't necessarily have to be exclusive of each other.

Not to mention the fact that they clearly pointed out that something happened with the Tea Party he used to be a part of.

I don't really think Shiroe is a "loner," anyways. He assembled a party very quickly and clearly has affection for those two. Just because he has a lot of friends doesn't necessarily mean he wants to join a guild, though.

Exactly what I thought. I don't think he's a loner, he just has an aversion to joining a guild. Which is, apparently, related to what happened to the Tea Party. He plays a freakin' support role; obviously he is accustomed to being in parties.

Regarding the trouble with low-level mobs: I would think of that as dramatic license to make things interesting. Explaining how they get accustomed to the controls without troublesome narration or silly dialogue. Plus, it lets them put an action scene in it. Though, to be fair, try playing an MMO with keyboard and mouse while dodging someone throwing pillows at you. Yes, the chance that you'd get killed is essentially nil, but it wouldn't be easy. And it isn't like it said at any point that they were in danger of dying; they were just frustrated at being unable to control the game like they were used to.

Ermagerd it's so rare for me to come across another veteran, though you got a year or so up on me, lol. We should swap war stories sometime!

But pairing with this, I have a very poor history of being in Linkshells. Mostly because it felt like tying myself down to much. Plus I had friends scattered all across different groups. I didn't want to make it ever look like I was choosing favoritism over anyone either.

The show could have better depicted his ideals, though. For once I'd like a character to just give a straight answer instead of being gloomy and silent. Even if the reason is downright stupid, it's better than being all mysterious.
