Hello :)

So i finally decided to use the free trial, really satisfied so far, but i have some questions concerning playback.

- What kind of configuration do you need to watch 1080p? So far i've only tested it on Diabolik Lovers ep1, had some slight slow down at some point of the episode. My laptop is an Intel [email protected], 4Gb RAM, sadly on ly an integrated intel graphic card. At best, my internet connection gives me 1.5Mb/sec. Is it good enough?

- Do the PS3 app loads the videos in 1080p by default? There is no settings there... Also, is it possible to reduce the substitles size? They seem kinda big (i have a Sony Bravia 32" TV), tested with Miss Monochrome episode 1.

- How are you notified of new episodes from your favorite shows? Do you need to add to queue, or by other means?

Thanks in advance,
Akuma.

Hey akuma2002, here's a link to the video help guide:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/help/?topic=video

I was having some playback issues as well, but doing the steps in the guide helped sort them out for the most part. If you still are having playback issues after trying the first five fixes on the guide, then you can contact customer support directly here:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=contact

I'm not sure about the PS3 settings either and would also like to know if subtitle size and video resolution are able to be customized on there. Adding shows to your queue will send you an email when new episodes are posted.

Hope this helps and you get the videos to playback in 1080p alright!

My computer plays only SD well (2.0 dual core, 128videocard, 2GB ram)
The PS3 I played it on, shows up as native 1080p.
My Kindle plays it in SD, unless the network is fast enough (DSL 5Mbps), there is scaling that makes it look better the more bandwidth that my connection has.

(the settings on the website, is purely for Computer playback only.)

That set-up probably won't handle 1080P well. Concerning your internet download speed, this is from the Video Help Guide (http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=video):

For SD videos, a speed of at least 600 kbps (0.6 mbps) is needed.
For 480p videos, a speed of at least 1500 kbps (1.5 mbps) is needed.
For 720p videos, a speed of at least 2500 kbps (2.5 mbps) is needed.
For 1080p videos, a speed of at least 4000 kbps (4 mbps) is needed.

If you're only pulling down 1.5Mb/sec, you'll probably need to drop down to 480p or SD quality to smooth out playback. You're only on a laptop so 480p is probably good enough. Give it a try and check out the quality. I think you'll find it adequate. CR encodes using H.264 and their 480p looks very good.

Hairbelly > It appears i made a mistake. I just checked the speedtest site and got a response of about 14 mbps^^;
Concerning video, seems my graphic drivers are not up to date, gonna change that. Again the only problem i got with the 1080p playback was a lag (pause) at the end, otherwise everything was fine...

I was wondering why even 480 looked so good.

Is it me or openings/endings of anime i watch always look better than the episode itself? (where the quality is obviously great anyway)

So i'm wondering, as long as your comp is powerful enough (and your line is fast enough), you'll see the anime the way it's been encoded at CR's HQ right?

Yeah, if your internet connection and settings are up to the necessary standards for HD playback it should play as encoded.

I think why some OP/END look better than the episode is because the production staff spent more time and resources on those than they did on that particular episode. Due to time constraints and budgetary constraints some episodes will have an animation quality drop off. Sometimes things are not quite up to snuff come broadcast day and they just go with what they have at the time rather than delay the broadcast until they can better animate scenes under less duress. Since the OP/END are already done upfront there's no need to reanimate those for new episodes (so no quality drop off). Also, I've seen some studios redraw certain scenes, or even entire episodes, for disc releases of the anime after the show finishes airing.

Well anyway, seems the problem was my internet connection being a bit laggy. I've just watched Walkure Romanze episode 1, the quality was too good to be true (Great anime btw^^)
