0 to yuri in only 2 episodes. that's probably a record for a non-hentai.

This show is incredibly confusing... I'm not sure what to think of it >_>

I'll give it another episode before deciding, though I do approve of the yuri. Yuri development is best development.

As Stark mentioned, its a reimagining of this series, so it might be a bit confusing without having gotten used to the series the first time. I loved the first version of it, it had yuri in it as well... I think between the same two girls... and Kotoha was a big fujoshi for yuri. :D

The setting gets explained early on in 1.0 if I remember correctly. Basically everyone that lives in that city between the seven pillars is either magic-touched, human or youkai of some sort. The cat-boy with the glasses wants destroy the pillars and I think pretty much acted alone. The girls and some of the guys protected the city from him... also one of the characters was an onmiyoji (sic?) of sorts that would help the spirit folk leave this world for the spirit realm if they wanted to.

Kotoha was and is again, my favourite character of the series (for obvious reason). Oh and Lily is a new character as far as I know... and probably the Senate too.

ANYWAY, you should go watch the original.

Some clarifications for new viewers.

The 2008 series is almost completely anime original and should be avoided as they contain major spoilers. As early as the first episode.

Do I need to read the manga?
It's a reboot that follows the manga. Think: FMA vs Brotherhood.

What about the 2010-2011 OVAs?
The OVAs follow the manga and covers the "Hoshi no Umi" arc (Vol. 4-6). At this time it's unknown if the new series will cover them.

What's "Hana no Uta"?
The new series is named after the "Hana no Uta" arc (Vol. 8-9). Possibly the last arc covered by the new series?

They also contain better explanations. As you noted, Hana no Uta is part of the story arc... so youre kinda stuffed into the middle of the setting. I would say its more of a "watch at your own risk", rather than telling them to avoid it.

Also since this is a reimagining of the first series, it's new, even to me... so again, watch at your own risk.

No. If the Episode 3 preview is to be trusted, the first major arc, "Thorny Path" (Vol. 2-3) will be animated.

What about the 2010-2011 OVAs?
The OVAs cover the "Hoshi no Umi" arc (Vol. 4-6).

The new series is named after the "Hana no Uta" arc (Vol. 8-9). But it's a reboot!

Yea, unfortunately, I watched the Hoshi no Umi OVAs after the first episode of Hana no Uta, and it spoiled some things about the characters' abilities.

I watched this after only skimming through the first two chapters of the manga, and I didn't really have any trouble understanding what was going on.

I like the series so far the characters are really fun and the animation is nice. I liked how they had two simultaneous plot lines going on in the second episode.

It looks like they're animating manga chapters starting from chapter 6.While it doesn't mean they'll animate every single chapter from Thorny Path to Hana no Uta (minus chapters covered in the OVA?), it looks like they'll be covering the important stuff.

Looks good so far but when anyone says "reimagining" I start getting flashbacks to that Eureka Seven movie.

Edited my previous post.

After two manga inspired introduction episodes, the series is now following the manga. Episode 3 covered chapters 6-8 and it appears Episode 4 will continue from there. Only question left is, how will they handle chapters animated in the OVAs.
