1. Vagabond - One of the best manga out there
2. 666 Satan - The other Kishimto brother needs more recognition.
3. Hunter x Hunter - Its pretty highly rated but it needs more recognition still. Oh and a new mangaka, one who isn't afraid of work.

1. Kingdom a story about two war orphans who try to become the greatest generals in China and a king who wants to unify all of China

2. Shokoku no Altair a turkish manga about a general who have to save his country from an inimeint empire invasion. This manga emphasizes strategies and tactics and the main charecter is not over powered.

3. Gunka no baltzar a war manga set in 19th century europe where a teacher must somehow reform the army students from third rate to a powerful army. Very silimar to shokoku no altair.

For some reason I like historical war manga

1. Parasyte- Amazing seinen series with great suspense and everything. 10/10.

2. Toriko- A bit underrated for a shounen. Seriously, this series is a straight-up action series with awesome fights, and it's just very entertaining in general.

3. Phoenix- A really great series that makes you think about humans and what we've done wrong. I don't really hear many people talking about this series though, and that's probably because the volumes are mostly out of print, and scans are hard to find. But a few volumes are not out of print, and since every volume is stand-alone aside from a few two-parters, you should have no problem reading some of the volumes like 2, 7 ,8, which are easy to find and amazing. I personally really love Volume 2.

1. Hunter X Hunter- one of my favorite anime. I don't know why it took me so long to find this one. Oh that's right because everybody is always talking about Naruto. lol. Anyway this is literally my favorite show right now, and actually the only anime I'm currently watching.

2. Deadman Wonderland- I'm not sure if this one counts as underrated exactly, but they're no longer making the anime anymore so I suppose that speaks for itself. I loved this show and the characters grew on me. I enjoyed the entire experience, and I wish they had made at least 12 more episodes.

3. Fatal Fury 2- I don't think this one can really be on the list because it's a anime movie and not series. However, I loved it and have watched it over 30 times probably it's an amazing old school anime movie that I feel not enough people know about, or acknowledge.

Hmmm of the 5 manga series I have... I doubt any of them are underrated... sides that I only get manga from B&N right now... so I doubt they would have much in the underrated department... maybe less heard of than say Naruto, Death Note, or One Piece... but not completely unheard of...

As for my 5 series... the one series I have that I see talked about less at least on these forums is Rosario + Vampire. But I don't think that is underrated at least.

1. Battle Royal - Amazing story of survival and having teenagers pitted against each other. This was made way before the hunger games and that was popular too bad this isn't.

2. No Longer Human - One of the most scarring stories I have ever seen from a manga.

3. I am Here - A very well done romance story although only two volumes long.

1. OniAI - that anime was seriously good and needs another season!
2. Panty & Stocking - I barely see anything about this anime and it is a shame. It had amazing comedy, loved the echi scenes, don't get me started on the soundtrack for this anime, and amazingly the dub could possibly be better than the sub.
3. Darker Than Black - granted sometimes it wasn't that great but the lore within the anime was amazing, the fighting scenes was good, and the idea of people having superpowers but have to deal with a contract the must abide to whether they like it or not, just in order for them to use said powers was a great plot device in my opinion.

1. Sugar Sugar Rune ~ Less popular than Gakuen Alice (which I love and also feel is underrated, especially as the anime never gets to the good stuff) but I think it's equally as entertaining and both come across as very cutesy and more childish but end up having much more mature and detailed plots, character development, and unique world/systems. Sugar Sugar Rune is about two young witches that start as friendly rivals to capturing human hearts in the human world (of all different shades) to decide which will be the next Queen of the witches in their world. The anime has filler and toned down from the quirky detailed artstyle of the manga that I love but is still very good. The series takes some twists and gets a lot more interesting as it goes.

2. Does manga count? If so I vote for 7seeds. Not so much underrated as it is unknown. Not for those who like their series light and happy, but rises above any in huge cast of realistic characters, relationships, and emotions, and harsh survival. After humanity is all but wiped out by a catastrophe, a last resort of the organizations trying to prepare for it is the 7seeds project, which 7 groups of healthy young people are put into frozen comas in capsules set to open a long time in the future at different periods and locations, hoping for the continued survival of humans. Japan is different though with different evolutions of plants and creatures and unstable environment.

3. Twelve Kingdoms or Junni Kokki - The plot of a girl protagonist getting thrown into an ancient fantasy world (cough Fushigi Yuugi) don't sound too original, but this epic anime based off of a fantasy novel series is anything but. The world of the twelve kingdoms is incredibly detailed, from their politics, way of living, and the way they view "the other world" as the strange unknown place. The main character Yoko is easy to sympathize but a little harder to like at first, but after the harsh things she's put through and struggling for her life in a strange world, her character growth is one of the most potent. The anime twists in a few of the other stories from the following books, following other characters as well. Probably one of the few anime I've marathoned so many times, myself or with others. I'd recommend it for anyone who likes more realistic fantasy and ancient worlds (such as moribito)
