Our most recent build was rejected.

Out of curiosity, does CR first publish the Roku app as a private channel (which doesn't require Roku approval) and let beta testers in various countries run it in real world scenarios? If not, that is something you may wish to pass on to the dev team for consideration.

I'd have to ask on this...
Though it'd be a little tough to do with the current build. I think because we're swapping up stream styles that bit is a little All or Nothing.

Months ago I had issues with waiting and waiting for video to load. Now a new issue is with retrieving video, it gets hung up and nothing is happening and sent back to episode info. I had to hook up my laptop to TV to finish watching the Legend of Orpheus since episode 17 to 20 would not load. Gloria is having problems with episode 30 and onward, nothing is loading and freezing on retrieving. So many problems have been ongoing for months.

Great job expanding apps to many devices, hope you guys can do a even a better job making sure all the videos from anime to drama new and old are loading up to all the devices that you are supporting.

I know the manga branch has launched and most of the resources are occupied making sure glitches don't get out of hand. However, I still feel that Roku support has fallen off the priority list in favor of other systems like the next-gen consoles or devices like Ouya.

The same could be said of the Android app as well. I haven't seen so much as a sneeze in that direction. I'll head off to the Droid relevant forums to vent about that.

All I ask is that if Roku devices are so difficult to properly code for than why haven't you just put up a notice saying so and drop support until further notice. Who's fault is it? Roku's? Crunchyroll's?

The next-gen consoles (so far there has been an app only announced for the PS4) will likely sell more units in the first year than Roku has in its existence. I love my Roku (just upgraded from the XD|S to the 3), but that is the simple truth. While it has sales in the millions, it is still distant in number of units sold to the Apple TV and certain the XBOX 360 and PS3. From that perspective, it makes sense to allocate any limited resources more in that direction.

CR has been keeping us apprised of the status of the Roku app. If you read through the topics you'll discover:

1. CR tried to implement HD earlier this year on the Roku, but that attempt caused some streaming issues and had to be quickly rolled back. (That one may have only been mentioned in the Premium Members forum).

2. CR submitted a new app to Roku in late August. After some time, we heard later in September it was rejected.

3. We learned the app was still being worked on, but there was not yet a specific time table for re-submission.

As to Android, OUYA is a step toward the new app. On the face of it, OUYA seems like a poor choice for a new platform, as it has limited sales and its future is not yet assured. Look closer, however, and you'll see that what you have is a single hardware configuration that runs Android, and a much smaller user base to get upset if something undetected slips through. The last I saw mentioned, the Google TV app (another Android-based platform) will be up next (more users, more hardware variety, but still limited compared to the vast variety of Android phones and tablets. Once that is out of the way, and no show stoppers pop up, it is time for the big play: The general Android app.

The information has been there all along, but it is something you could easily miss if you only jump in the pool once in a while, rather than swimming in it daily.

All I know is that... I just want to have the app finished by next year... Preferably before 2014....

I love my Roku and I have been anticipating for the new app for a long while... And I'm to broke to buy an Apple Tv or a next-gen console... xD

I have been having an issue for the past 3 months or so where whenever I start playing an episode on the Roku, I get the progress bar saying "Retrieving" but it only progresses a little bit and eventual fails, bringing me back to the episode info page.

This is exactly the same issue I am having also,is there a fix for this problem yet ? technoducky did you sort this out ?
Does this happen to everyone ? or only a few.

This happens to me occasionally, but it's pretty rare. When it has happened I just keep trying and after 2 or 3 attempts it works fine.

Since I first answered in this thread about 6 weeks ago, I think this has happened to me maybe two or three times at most, and then IIRC, only when it was within a few minutes of a simulcast show's initial release time. I can't remember exactly what I did, whether I just exited the CR app and went back in, or if I actually did a power reset on the Roku, but by the time I got back in again to try to watch it, the problem didn't recur. Slightly more often, but not very, and again, only within the initial few minutes of a release, it can take a few seconds to buffer enough of the stream to start up, but it's not all that long when it happens. Most of the time my shows start within only a second or two. Earlier, there were a few shows that I used to get one dot instead of two for a while, but that hasn't happened to me lately; it's been pretty darn stable since.

Yes, I'd also love an update as I spent last night watching Crunchyroll in true HD glory on my parent's AppleTV and it was beautiful.

Just saw/read the news post about the big new investor. Does that mean we can get some more resources thrown at the development the new Roku app? I've been waiting to watch HD anime on Roku for almost two years now and it appears HD Roku streams have been on Crunchyroll's drawingboard for at least three:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-682693/roku-and-via?pg=3

I know there have been technical setbacks but the only reason I can imagine for such an extended delay is "higher priorities" which is just another way of saying "lack of resources."

And the problem this year is that with all the new hardware coming out, limited resources can only end up in annoying people whichever way things fall.

If you ignore the new hardware, people get annoed as they've just shelled out on new kit and finding that it can't do what the old kit does.

But if you ignore the old hardware, people who lack the money/interest to buy new kit get annoyed. Especially if all three platforms they current use have known issues.
