Also that Tomoya Okazaki didn't end up with Kyou Fujibayashi, but that's just a gripe. Yes, yes I know they did the OVA but you can't properly condense 20 hours of visual novel story into 24 minutes and make it feel right. Sorry that was my random Clannad girl fandom rant of the day.

I agree with this one specifically; I know Nagisa's the main girl, but Kyou is so much better suited to Tomoya.

Anyway, back on point, but somewhat related. Visual novel adaptations are horrible for this, specifically ren'ai games. The main differential point between these games and harem anime is that you can pick a specific character and see an ending for them. When converted to anime, this gets largely lost. Either the story turns into a total harem series with no resolution (like in Majikoi), the story becomes entirely focused on the main girl's route and everything else turns into a weird side plot that isn't related to the rest of the story (like in Kanon and Clannad), or they choose to come up with an entirely different story that requires a significant change in the characters from the game (like in School Days). Not that visual novel adaptations all have bad endings; I thought Kanon did okay, for instance.

But man, that ending for Majikoi annoyed me to no end. The strong-willed, self-confident Yamato decides to pick...nobody? Really, the series is called "Please Love Me Seriously"...guess he didn't get the memo.

Angel beats.
I love that anime but the ending was too sad for me. I felt empty.

I have a list:

1) Sequel hook non endings.
Sets up for the next season which never happens.

2) Harem endings.
What value is there in the individual relationships in a harem ending? Sure the guy claims he loves them all but that is exactly my point; if he loves them all what makes any of them special? Nothing that's what. It is a selfish desire to covet all the women of his desires without committing to any of them and is complete adolescent fantasy bulls**t.

3) Ignored love interests endings.
Those love triangle or harem endings where the MC does pick ONE girl but then the story COMPLETELY ignores what happened to any of the others without any closure for them. Did they begin to move on or are they still pining after him? Why spend so much time developing their character only to just discard them at the end?

4) Worse off than when we started endings.
Bleak, dark, depressing and sometimes emotionally distressing. I like my escapism to be a bit cheerier than my day work which happens to involve the terminally ill and corpses (including children) so when I get a show with a sad or dark ending I just can't deal with it.

5) Childhood friends always finish last endings. Years, if not decades, spent together forming a deep connection with each other to the point they know each other inside and out. They are always there to do their utmost to help and support the protag and their love for him is evident to everyone with the exception of the dense p***k that is the protag himself. And what happens? He discards her for a random chick he only just met. Sometimes not only rejecting them as a love interest but the continuation of their friendship as well (Oriemo).

6) Picked no one endings.
Another harem one lol. The MC picks no one, the end. This is usually as a result of number 1 on my list but it is annoying in its own right.

open-ended, not answering all of my questions. and for romances, when it's established that the two main characters love each other but never really kiss or hook up e.g OHSHC. also anti-climactic endings, like something predictable or cliche

Yeah I'm gonna repeat what a bunch of other people are saying.

Pretty much all open ended endings that show no sign of a sequel. Pisses me the hell off.

When the main characters are in love with each other but don't even mention it or anything. When the ending is rushed and predictable. I hate it when the ending has side characters that are just put together for no reason.

The open, unresolved issue endings are the worst. I don't mind unhappy endings at all. I wouldn't want them to be a majority, but I don't think it automatically ruins an anime if the MC dies in the completion of his mission or if a love triangle blows up and leaves everyone unhappy. Those things happen and if done correctly, still make for a compelling story. One of the things I like about anime is that everything isn't always rosy and sweet.

Endings meant to set up a second season, which never happens.

Rushed or out-of-nowhere `whiplash` endings. The biggest unsatisfactory ending, for me, was Gosick`s.

Harem endings of any variety.

However, I am a huge fan of certain types of endings that many people can`t stand. In particular, the main character or love interest death ending is one I can usually enjoy. I don`t see the logic in `Why spend so much time developing a character if you`re only going to kill them off?' It's the end of the series anyway: it's not like you'll see them again even if they live. A good death scene isn't a cop-out, it's a culmination of all the development that a character has received. While generally, I prefer to see deaths occur earlier in a series, so that the characters can react appropriately, I have nothing against series that have a very important character die right at the end, because it's impactful and memorable.

Another favorite of mine is the infamous ambiguous ending--as long as it's appropriate. There are some stories that I feel should be ended ambiguously. In the right kind of plot, an ambiguous ending can be stronger than one that ties everything up: some stories lose their appeal if everything just gets sorted away neatly. Two favorites of mine are the endings for Baccano,
and Hyouka,

I hate premature endings (ends with a cliffhanger and unfinished), two examples would be Full Metal Panic! and Deadman Wonderland.

I dislike the anime/manga that are getting cancelled, and so the author is like OMGGOTTARUSHTHEENDING... and then it sucks. Idol Pretender did this, it didnt make me angry, but I was disappointed.

Also I *hate* anime that are made just to promote manga sales (by the looks of it), and then we dont even get an anime-original ending at least.
