Sometimes in anime I see something that I think is a folklore story: when a person is at the edge of a lake or a river, a lady will rise and she holds one thing on each hand, then she asks the person to choose one to take. Does anyone know what is the name of the story so that I can look it up on the Internet? Thank you.

That's a really common scenario in a lot of folklore--not just Japanese, and I doubt there is a a single name for the story, but perhaps among folklore scholars there is a commonly used term for this scenario.

However, personal threads aren't allowed in the CR forums, so I'm closing this. We do have a couple existing threads for such questions though, so you can post it again in one of those.
