I've seen some fantastic reviews on MAL, and I've seen someones that make me curse at the computer. All in all, they don't influence me but i like to see what others think of series'.

I've never read professional anime reviews... I find that the professional ones often have spoilers. They just describe the whole anime in the review, like not important spoilers, but I still consider describing what happens in the anime a spoiler for me.

I mean it's OK to write the themes and issues explored in the anime or if a character is well developed or superficial.

But why do some reviewers feel the need to write a sypnosis in the review?

I do read a lot of game reviews though, and they've influenced me to buy some games, because in the review, they make it sound so exciting and fun... all these tricks and stuff. But when I play it myself, I just don't see the excitement like they do.

But seriously i read some recent reviews and I just dont get some of them!First how can you review an anime in one EP! They slayed some animes but with some EP's 2 I was amazed at the change up direction some have taken! And how different they are! One gives Kill La Kill a 4.5. another 1.5 for historcial reference!Amazing the differences!

Like imaginarycreatures said, the ANN Preview Guide (and I don't know of any other professional reviewers that only "review" the first one or two episodes) is only supposed to give initial impressions, and they state that at the top of the reviewer listings. I mostly read for Zac's reviews, so it's kinda disappointing he covered so few shows this season.

If I read reviews at all, it's pretty much on sites with dedicated reviewers. It's not so much that I think their reviews are necessarily better, but that I can start to get a feeling for a reviewer's style, criteria, etc. Depending on the writer, a bad review might even make me want to watch it. It's all about whether I can understand why they say the things they do, and how it applies to me. Reviews are helpful, and nearly necessary if I'm thinking about watching a bunch of shows that have already aired -- they give me a feel for whether or not it might be something that I like. I don't really pay attention to whether they give a good rating or a bad rating. It's more about whether their evaluation of what makes the show what it is, is accurate enough to help me make a decision about watching it.

I use reviews to go back through episodes I have seen in case I need a recap

This is exactly how I use reviews too. When you get to know another reviewers tastes, you can use that to help gauge how much you might enjoy the series yourself. So even if a reviewer you know lambasts a particular style of series you love, that can still be very helpful in helping you find series you might enjoy.
